Ive resigned again today lol
Well after handing in my notice several weeks ago to start a new job, after careful consideration and long discussions with the MD, and my Dad being in Hospital I rescinded my notice and decided to stay where I was (for the time being)
In those few weeks things have gotten quite bad, 2 more guys have resigned (now putting the average retention rate at about 8 months, for a total staff count of 25)
I have accepted another job today after the interview over lunch (they paid too, a few beers and a large chinese, with 2 directors and the MD, we had a good laugh, got on well and quite possibly the most relaxed interview I have ever had) this job I will be much happier in, and its more money too, more holidays and a fuel card and full training in areas that I didnt think I would be working (basically heights and climbing)
So this one is now for real and there is definatly no going back

Congratulations on your new job, however you were lucky the new company didn't interpret your previous retracted notice and failure to start with the other employer as you being a potential 'ditherer'. I know as an employer I would be slightly concerned about your propensity to renege on a deal.
Good luck with it anyway.

Yep, that thought had crossed my mind, but they know full well all the reasons why I resigned, rescinded etc
To them it all makes perfect sense and gave them the opportunity to recruit me

I know, im not sure what the tax costs are thesedays for fuel cards
I had the choice of a fuel card or an extra 2k in salary, but thinking about it, after tax & NI that 2k is not a lot, and certainly not enough to cover the petrol I will use, Im my current job I use about 400 quid a month in petrol, my new job will be quite a bit more than that, so the fuel card is definatly the better option even when the tax man gets his pennies

But I used to get personal & business fuel paid for - via expenses just.
But the tax man took great interest.
So now thats gone, and I just get it paid via "other" methods

Yeah I used to get a fuel card, which the total amount got deducted every month from my wages, and I then claimed back business mileage at 12p a mile, then every year claim the tax relief back on the difference
That way we didnt have the fuel card as a benefit, so exempt from the normal Tax constraints
My Dad is doing well, he comes out tomorrow and I am supposed to be picking him up but im coming down with man flu, so I may not be able to get him as I dont want to risk him catching anything
