Need CCTV system!
Someone vandalised my GTR overnight (not sure if grudge or just kids trying to break in) so I need a simple to install CCTV system with recording that doesn't cost the earth and will record decent images at night, within the glare of streetlights and preferably with auto-movement sensing. I'd like to be able to go and buy it today.
Can anyone help?

Noooooo
They are expensive beyond belief.
Do not buy these cheap systems from B&Q or anything like that. if you want an outdoor cam you could do with waterproof infra red and get a CCD not a Cmos (the image sensor) as they are rubbish and get at least a 480tv (the resoloution) line camera. get a 4 channel DVR.
If you want any more info PM me and i'll point you in the right direction.

No offense intended fella but places like Maplin and Cpc are ok but they are a distributor of electronics in general and are not a specialist in CCTV.
Being an extremely competative market there are better places to buy from.

cheap black and white micromark cameras do seam to have a pretty good night time mode from previous experiance......
you cant beat the profesional stuff but most people dont want to spend the cash, so plump for cheap ebay spy cams and such and they simply "suck *****" at night
i run a 4ch dvr at home and a 8ch dvr at work

It depends what you want and are satisfied with. personally i think some of the cheap stuff out there are not worth a w**k but thats my opinion.
You can however get decent cheap stuff if bought from the right place. I bought a few cameras from the far east and they are brilliant.
he should be able to get a cheap system for around 200 quid.
Stick to a CCD processor and at least 420-480 tv lines with a 1/3 inch lens and you wont go far wrong. Oh and if it has a Sony CCD these are the ones to go for closely followed by Sharp
If you want some cheap cameras i have a couple of interior domes if you want

Had the same problem.
1. Go on ebay and you can get a out door cctv, cable and card for £30-£40. But it will take a bit to set up and it will record on your pc. So you will have to leave it on over night.
2. Tescos do one for £80 looks ok think B&W.
Start with some signs, they see them they should stay away.

Quick question for the chief if he happens to know: (sorry hi-jack - but its relevent) What LUX sensitivity levels should one aim for getting when looking at cameras suited for night use (colour or b/w).
Someone on SN referred me to this lot: CCTV cameras which is like a toy shop of CCTV.
Something worth thinking about is if you have an old computer sitting spare, it could be pressed into use as a DVR, by fitting DVR card; can save you a few quid if you already have the hard disks etc.

Is your car on the driveway if so I would also look at a lighting system called GJD, i fitted one on ours it lets you know if somebody is on your driveway if switched on the keypad or pads bleep this will give you a chanse to catch some b@stard doing any damage, I also fitted cctv which is a good system but theres nothing worst than watching your cctv footage of some ****** with his hood up damaging your car the next day when its happen........
Good luck
