It depends on what you're looking for in a holiday really, we stayed in Nessebar (old town) last summer, just up the coast (opposite Sunny Beach) and I much preferred it.
Sunny Beach is overcrowded and no different to any other mass-market resort - very tacky (imho of course).
Nessebar is much more authentic although you still have the shops selling all sorts of crap to tourists.
That said, if all you want is beer and loud (poo) music you'll probably like Sunny Beach.

JM i've just booked a fortnight in Mexico for 900 quid all in at a really nice resort (Riu Tequila) it worked out cheaper than going to Spain
