Default How can I find contact details for the owner of a vehicle involved in an accident?

Mates car was involved in a hit and run in a car park at the weekend.

Have CCTV footage of the accident. The perpetrator obviously wasnt too bright as didnt realise the accident was in full view of a camera. Query is there any way I can find out name and address for car owner from reg no so my mate can contact them before going to the cops with the CCTV disc?

Thanks

yep, agreed, there is nothing to be gained from any retribution in the long term.... far better to let the law step in. - and let the dust settle (if you know what i mean )

good luck

There's no legal way of you getting the details.

Report it to the police and take the disc in with you when you go.

Any contact with the person who commited the hit and run may actually harm your case. I would go straight to the police.

Not sure I'd bother with the police, they'll probably find some reason why your mate was in the wrong for videoing public property.

Go straight to the insurance company with the evidence and leave them to it.

just pretend your a parking inforcement company while writing to the DVLA. They seem to be good at giving information to any cheese d!ck who asks for it.

personally, i'd be hot footing it to my insurance company, dvd in hand!

Thanks for suggestions. Agree going to cops probably easiest and safest.

I'll pass it on.
