Anyone know anything about ground rent?
We received a letter today stating that we owe 2 years grond rent (fair enough we moved in 2 years ago) but they are also asking an amount for 'unpaid ground rent from prior period' and 'unpaid other charges from prior periods' Surly we can't be liable for periods before we moved in? Or is the amount attached to the property and not the previos owners?
Anyone have any experience in this area?
Thanks in advance.

Should have all been sorted out by your solicitor when you bought the leasehold property. Check with them. If not then perhaps you have a problem.
You are of course liable for ground rent in the period since you bought the property.

The maximum they can claim is 6 years arrears of ground rent, and yes you are liable if the previous owner didn't pay. Normally if the owner of the ground rent is unknown, your solicitor would get an allowance of 6 years rent on completion from the seller.
Not sure what you mean by other charges, but feel free to pm me if you have more questions.
