Mattress topper - 2" or 3"?

We've had a 2" memory foam topper on our bed for the past 18 months and it's been fantasic. Looking to get one for the spare room now but was wondering if getting a 3" thick one makes any real difference?

It'll probably end up making it softer, personally id just buy a whole mattress instead.

I have their platinum mattress and it's fantastic.

Ah - yes, probably right re the softness and the one we have now feels about right. Probably just go for the 2" topper. The mattress it covers is pretty new and good quailty so don't really want the expenses of replacing the whole thing - especially since it's for the spare room. However, when we come to replace the whole mattress in our room then I'll probably follow your advice.
