Adding a further degree of freedom to the system, i.e. removing the friction, allows the system to oscillate at the driving frequency ?

You will notice each pendulum is oscillating at the same frequency, only they start out of phase with each other. Once the board starts to oscillate from left to right the laws of physics take over....

You canny defy the laws of physics Jim...

LOL

If you have more than one item all with the same natural frequency of movement or vibration, if you set one oscillating than the others will vibrate in sympathy if they can sense the vibrations of the first one. Each metronome must be set to the same frequency and when they all sense the vibrations through the board via the cans then they will naturally line up together.

It is different to the Doppler effect though Pete.

Cool, not seen it done with metronomes, but my physics teacher did something similair with two pendulums (pendula? ) a tray and some ball bearings.

Someone thought this was insulting another member and warranted 2 Infraction points resulting in a ban:-

Yes I have to give you that one Pete. Would they appear to be moving more slowly as you walked away from them though?

I have to say that it appears that the infraction system is being abused. I wonder if the people who did it have got the guts to post and explain their reasons. What possible justification could there be I wonder.

The infraction system discussion has been done to death. As has been explained many times, further discussion of this outside of the scoobynet policy forum will result in infractions.

The infraction system is working exactly as intended, and expected.

There are processes and systems in place to deal with anything which is not 100% justified.
