My Dog - Love him to bits, but...
He's a lovely natured little lad. Unfortunately the vet said today that he has a tumour on the side of his face . He is going back to the Vets on Friday for a biopsy. Have done a quick google on canine cancer and it appears that the best case scenario is 12 months or thereabouts.
Has anyone had a dog diagnosed with cancer that has had treatment and had full remission and lived for many years afterwards ???
He's called Max (cos of the M shape colouring on his face)

our dog was very ill 1 night last month with a twisted gut (apparently in dogs can be fatal)on the xray the vet noticed a mass close to her liver and said it could be cancer.they done a biopsy and luckily it turned out to be a non cancerous growth that can be removed when we see fit, basically it is not life threatening and will be checked every year come vaccination time if it gets any bigger then we will get it removed.
hopefully you get some good news like me when you next go the vets.
lovely looking dog by the way

Both our boxers have had lumps / growths removed, until you have the results of a biopsy try to stay calm and not stress about it.......... easier said than done I know but otherwise you may work yourself into a frenzy.
In the majority of cases the lumps will be benign (generally fatty or fluid filled) and of no dettrament to the dog. However malignent tumours are cancerous and can if not diagnosed quickly enough spread cells throughout the body........... I'm giving worse case scenarios here.
Fingers crossed for you and your dog that it is a benign lump!!
Kind regards
GB

good luck with it, likes others have said though, fatty lumps are quite common in dogs, my old springer spaniel had quite a few of them, hopefully it will turn out to just be one of these types of things

We had a cross-corgi when I was a nipper.
She had a growth - that when removed reduced her weight by a third .
She lived on for another 8 years and eventually died of "old age".
Not all lumps are cancer and hopefully Max will be fine

I'm currently in the same situation. I have an old cat which isnt eating now, and hasnt eaten properly for over a week. She's lost so much weight, that I took her to the vet's yesterday. Im now waiting 48 hours for the results. So I can really appriecate what your going through.
I also have a male Akita ,that once had a lump. The days before you recieve the results you cant help thinking the worst. Turned out it was non-cancerous. Therefore try not to over think the situation and wait for the results. My dog is nearly 9 and is now suffer from arthrightous. He's getting old and I know he only has a few years left, which is a real ball aching feeling.
If the lump is bad, then get it removed and see how things go. Even its 6 months or 1 year, having a loving dog waggle his tail when you get home, is a sight that is priceless.
Fingers crossed.

What a lovely dog. I am really sorry to hear about your worries. He doesn't look too old so with luck it will turn out to be benign. I hope so anyway. Please let us know how it all goes.

Our dog had the fatty lumps and warty growths, also (well covered on here) whe was blind, deaf, had a droopy face and was a bit confused, the lumps stank and I had to clean them, they would bleed and she wasnt happy, neither was were the carpets in the end we decided to not put a 15 year old dog in for an op and have her put to sleep, I still feel bad about it but I still think it was the right decision.
Hopefully your Dog will be ok for a good while longer but make the right decisions for the right reasons, listen to other people and your vet, you have to tackle these things head on and not try to dress it up, its cruel but it comes with the territory when you get an animal, in most cases you will outlive your pet. Sorry if that sounds harsh and a bit insensitive but having just gone through it I want to make the point that life does go on and its not all about you, the dog and his quality of live is the main concern.
We now have our dog back, in an urn, to be honest her activity level now isnt much less than before, its funny how strangely reassuring having an urn full of Dog Ash returned is.

We were told that biscuit had 'up to' 12 months last february when I found a lump just behind his neck. It was a particularly nasty cancer known as Injection Site Sarcoma*.
After 3 operations to remove growths ( it occurred again in September and November ) , 2 grand in vets bills ,a f*ck load of antibiotics to keep the wounds infection free and a number of touch and go days, the hair's grown back and he's back to his happy self and putting the weight on again.
He may have gained a year, or ten.. who knows ?
All through it the overriding concern was that he was as happy as possible. The day that changes will be harsh, but its less about you than them.
No need to give up straight away, they are more resilient than you think
Best of luck.

Jods, don't worry unduly just yet, as others have said it could just as easily be nothing more sinister than a fatty growth.
My pals dog had similar and he bathed him in Daz to remove all fatty deposits.

Our lab had his spleen removed plus other lumps and bumps which were cancerous when he was nine and he lived another 5 years with no further problems.

Update:
The vet cut out the lump for biopsy tests. Results due next Thursday.
Not that money is a concern but will share the info: £260.67
Fingers crossed for good news next week.

Good News !!
The Vet called me this morning - I could tell from the tone of his voice that it wasn't going to be bad news.
It was a subcutaneous benign blah blah blah and Max was fine.
The Vet did say that if he got any further lumps I shouldn't assume that they were benign (fair point)
For now - The Jordan Household is VERY VERY HAPPY
He goes back on the 16th to have the stiches out, for now - he is crashed out on the sofa having a dream
