Never been a big wine fan so after some advice. Friend of mine is 40 this year (soon) and I thought I'd buy something special to mark the occasion, and to point out I've still got more than 3 years to go

So a really nice bottle of 68 vintage wine, i'm prepared to spend up to £150 (or more if necessary) can someone point me in the direction of a good online retailer.

You will struggle to get anything from that year at all. Try to get some bas armagnac instead as 60' vintages are much more common.

Is there truly anyone on this forum who owns vintage wine ( not in a bonded warehouse ) who has not weakened and drunk it?
My wife's cousin has a terrible problem, she was given a £100 retail bottle of champagne for her 40th birthday and simply cannot come up with a good enough reason for drinking it.

I buy and sell wine every day and I can promise you that there is nothing worse than opening a bottle of wine you have been saving for years to find that its gone off and is game over. £100 is not a lot for a good wine but remember that very few wines last for any length of time and even less get better over a certain age. Research the wine find the time it should peak at under perfect conditions then make sure it is drunk a year at least before that.
