The senic railway in Margate
Looks like its been destroyed by fire; great shame, spent many a happy hour on that in my youth and it was actually a listed structure and one of the oldest remaining coasters in the world.
BBC NEWS | England | Kent | Fire rips through rollercoaster
It had not been operating for some time due to its location within the defunct Dreamland Park in Margate, which was to make way for developers to build housing and shops, which had been strongly contested by campaginers and local planners who wanted the site as a heritage amusment park with the railway taking pride of place.
Not that this has anything to do with it, obviously!
Great memories, check out the bloke staring back down the train in this picture. Nothing out of place till you realise he is responsible for operating the brakes!!! No, I'm not kidding, trim brakes had not been invented when this coaster was built!

It should be rebuilt and there should be a public enquiry into the future of Dreamland IMHO

Yup Nat21 is right. Its amazing how many un-wanted buildings seem to catch fire in suspicious circumstances. There's always a party that has a vested interest and rarely do they get charged.

Some reports offered the fact that it had suffered a number of fires before as if to say, "well, what do you expect, wood burns!"
Yeah, a bit like brown paper envelopes!
To cover SN legally we should point out that this is speculation based on the fact that police are treating the fire as "suspicious". No individual or organisation is being blamed........yet!
A public enquiry into this is called for if it turns out to be arson, however.
The decision about the redevelopment of that area is LONG overdue!
