Designed so everyone hates them.
We all comment that even the Euro looks better. Government survey shows people want the Euro. Government then gets it's ways and signs up to the Euro.

Cr*p. And they don't even have any numbers on them (as in '2' instead of 'two') so making it even more difficult to figure out what is what. Sorry, but why do they have to change the coinage anyway???? Oh, and bring back the pound note. Wouldn't get so many holes in my pockets then!!

Yet another way to belittle our currency. Britannia has disappeared I gather too. All this sort of thing is aimed towards destroying all this country stands for so that eventually they can give us away to the corrupt Eu and reap the rewards for that themselves

How is having the Royal coat of arms on the coins one one side, and the queens head on the other belittling the currency and all the country stands for?

I do think, not having numbers is a fundamental design fault.
Surely it's just common sense, I'd be the first to moan if I went abroad and had to learn a whole load of words just so I could use the currency.

New Britain needs New Money. All part of the rebranding exercise.
Just surprised they don't carry idealised portaits of our saviours Tony and Gordon on them.

No thats two different set of coins - One is commeorating the new coins, one is commemorating the old one.
The new on is called the "Shield of arms" set - the other is called the "Emblems of britian" set.
Look here
The Platinum Collection
They don;t have the number son - Unless they ae putting them on the Queens side.

On the flip side - if you don't speak the language - and someone says to you "twenty", then you have immediate knowledge of what "twenty" is, if you see what I mean - Rather than trying to work out how you say "20"

I think they're great! 'And come on, how long is it going to take to recognise one coin from another'?! Or are we all to be brought down to the 'hard of thinking' level? Some bleat about the nanny state and then want to have it explained in shape, colour, graphics, weight, words 'and' numerals exactly which coin they're about to hand over

Fair point, but why not have both, I just think it's trying to be trendy for the sake of it.

Amazing what you don't notice in something you look at every day
But yeah, I agree have both - I mean I like the look with no numbers, but you have to have functionality over aesthetics when it comes to something like money.

They look pretty good to me but I agree it's lunacy not to have the numbers on them. For a foreign visitor it's more important to know what each coin is worth than be able to say it's name! I'm surprised they didn't take the opportunity to make the coppers smaller too.

The difference in the 2 sets are just which way up the collection is facing. There's another set that displays both side's of the coin.
Edit - Looking at it again, I may be a tiny bit wrong. Not much mind!

Shield one side
Queens head the other
I'll bet you as much new coinage as you like.
I think we would had just a little bit of an outrage had they decided to remove the queens head from the coins, which is what they would have to do if the coins were as you suggest
