I have just found this regarding the toll on the M25 crossing

The toll was due to end in April 2003, after the cost of the tunnel and bridge across the Thames had been paid off. Now it's been turned into a charge to combat congestion.

they could stop calling it a toll booth and label it immigration control, only because the money goes to paying for immigrants.

Could be worse I guess, you could elect a new government who, after being given years and years of honeymoon treatment, would be found to have taxed and extorted more money than ever from your pocket!

Well it's not a stealth tax, it a bloody obvious tax!

It really winds me up that I have to sit in a queue sometimes for ages, just to pay to get on with my journey. The queue is only there because traffic is slowed by the tolls, makes me mad everytime (being inconveninced just so I can pay).

I think you'll find electronic tolling coming your way in a few years. Been tried and tested here in Australia since 1999-2000 there abouts. Little tag in your window, drive under a gantry system, beep. There's a few quid taken directly out of your bank.

Fortunately I use satnav to get around these "motor-tax-ways" and use the highways my other taxes pay for.

Our stone age little country has these little elctronic things in our windows and has for many years.

The ones for the Dartford tunnel are called a Dart Tag. They even make a little beep as well!

Didn't say you stoners didn't have it, just saying Australia was an early adopter, as early as the mid 90's (Just they didn't get the European system working properly), and still has the largest network of ETC highway.
