Who didnt know that this would be child-****, before reading the story?
Unless theres an indisputable link between him and the source, through his credit card for example, then Im far from convinced (even though he looks like a dirty f*ck-witted workshy charver)...

It's always Child **** isn't it?
TBH the whole Matthews family thing looks just wrong. He looks like a Pedo, and the mother is obviously the local bike. An old, ugly knackered Bike at that.

From what I saw on the news I would fire bomb the entire estate. I don't think anybody would be missed and the amount of benfits we would save could be in the millions......

That's like saying its always people robbing the bank that get arrested and never those using the ATM normally!
Having said that - i would expect that anyone who has spent more than 10 mins searching for **** (of any sort) on a pc would have a hard drive with images on that would be enough to get police interest if they were feeling inclined.

These kind of things always concern me. Purely from a selfish point of view which is if someone took a look at my computer I'm SURE they would find something less than okay. Not because I look for this kind of thing but because I look occasionally for software and those sites are full of unsavoury things.
As Tigg mentions above unless you just check your email and visit the BBC website you will have something incriminating on your hard drive: Even visiting some of the more colourful threads on here would lead to interesting sites being listed.

Surely you don't get indecent images of children on your PC, just by visiting legal **** websites though?
You may have a link to the URL in your IE history, but possessing images means you have actually downloaded them, or am I being naive?

Quite a different matter having pictures on your hard drive. Right clicking - save picture, is quite a different matter.
The Police would know the difference.

The point being that finding indecent images is a catch-all crime it would appear. If you have lots of images delibrately saved in folders on your hard drive then that is different.

Its when you start typing in credit card details and downloading stuff that you are caught

Can I change my mind, Pete agrees with me!!!
But seriously, they couldn't even prove you had viewed a picture that could be at the bottom of a page with loads of other pictures.

No, but there is a difference between being arrested for having pictures and then it either being dropped or thrown out in court.
I have no idea in this case but there are too many 'found indecent images' in the headlines and then hardly any follow-up (when the damage has been done).

That's how they catch the idiots (like Pete Townshend) but every image you view is downloaded to you PC. It is nothing to do with right click and save as otherwise those sharing these images would simply put up a server somewhere and just look at it, never actually right clicking.
Go to any page with a lot of images, especially if the site is busy and explorer will have a info bar at the bottom which says something like "downloading image 3 of 65 ..."
viewing = downloading and no defence. Gary Glitter was caught when he went to PC World and they recovered the deleted files from his hard drive so it is no defence at all (quite rightly). Remember, a deleted file still exists. Your PC simply flags the space as an area it can over write but until it gets round to it the file is still there.

well i admit i am in no way whatsoever an expert in pornography (child or otherwise)
but i can say honestly in my years of searching the net vor tons of stuff i have never seen a child **** image ever
I have no idea where you would stumble upon such stuff and I think it is dubious to offer this as a theory as to how such stuff arrives on a pc

But that image would be tied to a URL and if that URL was on a legit site, I don't see how they can prosecute, if it was on a "dodgy" site then fair enough.
By the way, I'm not getting my defense in early!

Aye, very doubtful you'd be done for that. Basically they'd get you because you were silly enough to put your credit card details in and the site was specifically offering child images or because you were part of a web share and a inspection of another PC led to you as a contact for that person so they knock on your door next.
If your uncle fester mate got busted and you ttried deleting your images they'd still be able to recover them and the evidence would say you were deliberately viewing them whether you pleaded not guilty or otherwise.
with so many out there though i suspect it is difficult to get yourself noticed by the cops. I suspect the numbers that get caught are actually very small compared to the number of pervs involved.
Just don't take your computer to PC World a la Glitter... another Paul suspiciously...
