Clumsy DIY ethusiasts could cause £25 million worth of damage in British homes over the Easter weekend, according to research for Allianz Insurance. The survey indicates that 16 per cent of people have damaged their homes or property carrying out "improvements", while 30 per cent have injured themselves or someone else in the process. One respondent admitted taking six days to put up a shelf. Another spent seven years tiling a bathroom. Simon Coughlin, of Allianz, says: "Before they start, we suggest DIYers check to see if their insurance policy covers them for accidental damage. The average cost of a claim is £600."
