And they say that they 'have' to have a second home! B*llox you do! Just move for Christ sake!
That's what the rest of us have to do.

My personal view would be to double their wages and scrap all this bollox!!
MP's pay is £61,820 as of 1 November 2007, which, honestly, is pathetic IMO.
That's the wage of a Deputy HeadTeacher in a Secondary School of 1000 pupils ...... HeadTeachers get around 50% more than an MP!
So, I would support them getting a worthy £120,000 and no allowances.

As someone in a paper suggested, the Gov. should invest in a block of flats for those that live outside of, say the M25. MPs could use that as their London base. If they wanted to furnish it themselves fine. But it wouldn't come out of expenses. Would solve the whole thing in one go.

Indeed, especially on London's wonderfully improved public transport system that is more than capable of carrying even more people.
Speaking of allowances and travelling, I was just wondering.... who pays the congestion charge for MP's commuting?
PSL, what exactly are they doing to earn 120k a year.... abstaining from votes because they are told to.... Spending the day 90% of it, shouting "witty banter" at one another.... I am hard pushed to believe that all MP's work a 5 day week, even 4 day week. The Commons is not usually jammed to the brim unless there is an important vote, so most debates are heard by maybe 10-15% of all MP's
Ooooh, reel reel.......... I think you have a bite

Really! Could have fooled me.
Maybe in some areas, but certainly not others.

Just a quick one........
Given the current wages and current expenses, what would you suggest the ball park figure is already? i.e would a removal of expenses and increase in wage really make a difference?
Honesty with expenses would be a good start. Ironic that Flash's favourite word today is "transparency".........

IMHO £120k for an MP is a poor wage. The PM gets an even worse wage for £ for £ if you factor in hours/stress. This is regardless of individual PM but if you consider the red top abuse, hours, travel, running an entire country, personal and family risk etc etc it is not a good wage.

What does the 20k cover and is that IT, or just cover some allowances, i.e food, travel, home and other living "allowances"
Hutton, totally mate, same with any job, and indeed people who buy houses near race tracks and airports then protest its noisy! Duh!

They know the deal before they get into it. The job carries a set salary and numerous opportunities to increase that by claiming "allowancies"
No one makes an MP become an MP.
Now lets look at the "worthy" point.
I'd be prepared to bet an MP's base salary that a large number of MP's could get anywhere near £61,000 in the private sector. Some, yes, but not all.

Before some out there decide to shoot me down, with comments like 'get a better job', don't bother, I'm voicing my opinion, and I don't need the obvious pointed out to me.
It, at least to me, is so frustrating to think these politicians are getting this much in allowances alone (regardless of their salary and other perks they no doubt get), when after tax, I'm lucky if I earn half that amount. Not to mention that due to the changes in income tax, I'm set to be even worse off than I was. So while I'm having even more squeezed out of me, they're out spending 10 grand on a kitchen. Talk about a party for the working class.

I think these previously hidden handouts are obscene. They fought tooth and nail to try to get them suppressed but the Freedom of Information act managed to outwit them.
I think they are greedy and are after as much as they can get regardless. I just don't consider them important enough to deserve that kind of money and most of them just vote however they are told to by their masters and have not got the guts to rebel when it is really necessary for the good of this country and its people. Don't forget that all their food and drink at Westminster is also subsidised by the taxpayer!
