IDEA!
I have just seen that Play.com are doing 4Gb memory cards for £9.
Now, why not have a MP3 Player with, say, 4 slots for these cards and a very small built-in memory to run the software .... the cost of the storage would be £36 for 16Gb in this instance.
Put a colour screen in and supply earphones ...... sell for £49:99 Retail, for a 16Gb expandable MP3 Player.
Why pay iPod money? Could I become a millionaire if I start producing these devices?

The major selling point would be the cheap, removeable memorycards ..... use the Windows drag and drop system too.
I could clean up .....

I still have my Archos in the car: 20gig!
Its 8 years old now, and was released in the UK before the iPod! and doesn't need any arsy software (drag and drop) and has well over 15hours of battery life (since changing the batteries to 2600mAh)....Handy devices, laptop hard drives

so selling for £49.99, £36 of that is memory, so for £13.99 you are going to package a colour screen, earphones, internal memory, software, circuit board, external packaging, advertising
think it will take you a long time to be a millionaire from that!

Get a rear mounted and run a USB extension cable to somewhere suitable. Mine comes out in the passenger footwell. 8gb flash drive, couple of movies, a few CDs. Traffic jams dont bother me anymore.

I modified a Shuttle PC case for a mate, as he does a lot of art etc he wanted to be able to hook up the cards from his camera's so I took a apart a few PC combo-card slots and built a flip down rack that allowed him to slot in 6 of the compact flash cards.
No doubt someone has thought of this, if not patent it my good man!

It puzzles me why, say, an iPod is £175 when to buy the memory would cost a fraction of that ........ I know it's to do with 'perceived' image with the iPod, but I'm sure there is a market for something much, much cheaper and expandable.

Pete I asked a similar quesiton about the iPhone, and everyone said it was crap but a lot of people even knowing that it isnt that good were prepared to pay 600 quid for one, becuase everything 'Apple' looks cool, functionality doesnt reallly come in to it with anything that begins with 'i'

well it's just a piece of pi55 innit? you'll just need to find a hardware supplier first. plus investment to cover R&D, patenting and production - not to mention a viable revenue model, marketing, sales channel network, customer service etc etc etc.
just ask steve jobs or joong yong yun at samsung.
muppet show please.

Patents? Simple Form to fill in.
The rest I will buy in.
People putting problems in the way is why they never move forward ...... Muppet Show for you maybe, as it's clearly a bit too challenging and tough here in the real world
