Cooking for One
Is it just me (it probably is) or does anyone else find cooking for one boring? I'm happy cooking for guests be it a single lucky lady (who always gets my signature knicker-dropping home made tagliatelle Four times that dish has worked ) or for the whole family and friends. But when it comes to cooking for myself... well, I never know what to do. For example Mother's day was a special roast with rich accompanianments to serve eight where as tonight looks like a sweet potato with baked beans.
Or maybe just baked beans. I might even warm them
Anyone know any good recipes for one? I don't fancy hanging around the microwave meals for one section of Tesco (although that might be a good place to meet women, hmm, I hadn't thought of that...).

Yes it is, I live on my own during the week and tend to eat alot of ready meals (microwave curry's etc or pizza's) or meals that only involve one saucepan, but when windydaughter stays at the weekend and I'm in the mood I like to cook more elaborate meals but she's a fussy eater and doesn't doesn't like much variety.
it's a great place and you can look into the female's baskets to see if they are buying microwave meals too

Not sure all of the fast food ties in with my attempts at a healthy, balanced diet.
Still £3.50 for a carvery isn't bad value at the local Pub & Carvery, but I'm cautious about where I eat out after seeing what my staff have got up to in the kitchen before.

My other half works shifts so I often cook just for myself. I can never be bothered to go to too much effort so have something quick and easy like omelette, cheese on toast, a microwave dinner or a bowl of cereal (when I'm feeling REALLY lazy)

I cook for just me when my kids aren't here, and its easy to fall into the take-away trap or just microwave monosodium glutemate ****e, but its just as easy to be a bit creative with a few ingredients. Omelettes are dead easy and you can throw all sorts into em : peppers, mushrooms, etc. Also stir fry is an easy one-pan meal, and if you can be arsed with two pans doing your own pasta only takes 15-20 mins to sort out.

That sounds like far too much work! I've managed to get the effort required down to a few simple steps:
1. Remove lid from big tub of Tesco low fat natural yoghurt.
2. Scoop spoon into yoghurt
3. Place spoon in mouth
Repeat steps 2 & 3 until full/bored
4. Replace lid.

Chicken or Steak Fajitas might be worth a try. All you need is the meat, el-paso fajita mix, peppers, onions, mushrooms. Chuck it in a pan, cook it up, add in the sauce/mix, serve in a tortilla/wrap.
Steak salad is another good one. Couple of small peppered steaks, cook them up. Get some romaine lettuce, drop in a bit of red pepper, some goats cheese, add in the steak, then your preferred dressing (Paul Newman's Italian or Parmesan/Garlic seem to go well) give it a bit of a toss (it's ok, you're tossing your own salad )

You could cook up a huge vat of chilli, or lasagne and invite everyone round, and freeze what's leftover.
'Hey everyone..lets do the show right here!'
.............or you could buy Delia's book 'One is Fun'

A lump of fillet steak, an onion, mushrooms, small tub sour cream and paprika..
Cut the steak into strips, fry off with the onion and mushrooms - add sour cream, salt and pepper and enough paprika until you get the desired taste
bung some of that 2 minute rice into the microwave, and within 15minutes you have a cheats version of beef stroganoff
can also be done with chicken
