Thumbs up Cancer - chap i know has just made medical history

and Good on him.

I have experience of cancer, never a good expeience up until now.

I lost my father to it along with a lovely girl friend of only 26 to it.

so here goes.
A friend of mine naming no names has just made medical history. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in September 2006. Tests showed that the cancer had not spread and an operation removed the ********. He was given the all clear but was originally told he would need chemotherapy. This diagnosis was revised and he was then told no chemotherapy was required. Routine tests and an MRI scan revealed that the cancer had returned in January. Blood tests that were taken at Northampton and Kettering hospital showed that tumour markers were higher than would normally be expected subsequent tests showed increases in the markers and he was told that he required aggressive chemotherapy with a tube positioned in his heart that would last up to 12 months. The chemotherapy was revised after further tests and he was told that he would only require 3 months chemotherapy inserted into a tube in his arm. All preparations were done and a bed was booked in Northampton general hospital. On the night before he was due to go to hospital he was told no beds were available eventually they came clean and told him there was no cancer to treat. Subsequent tests showed that the cancer markers had decreased and they had no explanation for this. He has since been tested again! The medical profession has confirmed that the tests that showed the cancer were correct and that for some reason he has recovered without medical intervention. There is no explanation for this! Spontaneous remission has been mentioned but the only cases of this have occurred later in the illness they have now confirmed that this is the only recorded case ever!! Cancer specialists will now be looking at this.

good in him

article in the paper with the scans days ago showing a cancerous brain tumor at diagnosis, clearly seen on the scan, new scan at treatment after being told he was probably terminal, showed no tumour at all, it disapeared completely. maybe not so isolated at all.
this is not the first time i have seen this.
fair play to him, would love to know what his body produced to fight the tumour.
all the best, not long since my wife lost her mum, and my nan, her dad is not long off the operating table, all in a year, and thats not including our two cats to cancer in the same period.

Very Strange.

What are the chances of a mix up in the labs...or a contamination of samples?

Either way, I bet he gave a huge sigh of relief!

They should be analyzing every aspect of his life, his diet, his history, his sleeping arrangments, what deodorant he uses and so on, wouldn't it be great if cancer can be cured by 8 cans of Stella, 2 hours on Scoobynet and a w4nk !

Fantastic news anyway.

What a great story. I really hope this guy can continue to fight this.

If there is something within him that can be researched to even help get close to a cure, I really hope those looking into it can find something that will help the many people out there who aren't able to fight Cancer within their own bodies.

It is great to hear a positive story and I truely wish him all the best.

I truely hope all turns out ok. He may not heal himself put I hope with treatment he will get through this.

I know how you must be feeling. I have posted up in a different thread about what is going on in my family, so my thoughts really are with you.

Briefly, my Mam had breast cancer, had surgery, but the worry has come back again as she has found a problem with her other breast. Hopefully it will be fine, but until tests, we just don't know. All you can do is try and remain strong, and together fight it.

As much as I'm trying to get on as normal, and even have a laugh at times on here, I'm really struggling. I know my Mam is trying to put on a brave face, but I know she is really scared, so am I, but I will continue to be there for her and be as strong for her as I can. Right now that's all you can do for your Dad.

If you ever want to talk, if it may in any way help, just get in touch. I to am a TTS member, but as I'm never on there, get in touch through SN if you want to.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that all turns out fine.

My gran was given 6 months to live back in 1965, diagnosed with stomach cancer.

She lived a perfectly normal, healthy life for another 27 years. The cancer just vanished.

I didnt realise but watched an interview with a Unicef Ambassador last night Jemima Khan (very fit too I might add) but she was commenting that we have the ability now for a woman with Aids to have a child and not pass it on to the child down to a 2% chance. Thats pretty impressive and makes you wonder why we are not using all the donated money to Africa with this medication.

What a great story, delighted for him. Hope they continue to check him though. I have heard of cancers going into complete remission before so it it is certainly possible.

Robbieben,

Sorry about your dad's diagnosis. The earlier they catch it the better of course. I had the same problem, had the operation, no need for a Stoma thank goodness, and so far have passed all the embarassing checks you get afterwards.

They are so much better at treating it nowadays so I send you and him my best wishes and hope they sort it for him quickly.

Les
