A puzzle for you
While walking through a market on vacation, you notice a small stand selling cameras. A camera and case set is selling for $310. The seller tells you the camera costs $300 more than the case itself and the case costs the price of the set minus the cost of the camera.
You decide you`d rather wait on buying the camera and opt to just buy the case alone. You hand the seller a $100 bill and see his eyes light up. Think fast now. How much change should you be getting back.

Why would you buy a case for a camera you don't have?

Camera = $300
Case = $10
Therefore, change = $100 - $10 = $90
Either there's no real puzzle here at all, or I'm missing something.
How did those of you who said $95 get that figure?

Camera $300 more than case.
Camera must be $305, case $5.

*mumbles something incoherently*
I really do hate puzzles like that. Its amazing how daft a human brain can be. Took me at least 10 mins to work out that it was not $90

If the answer really is $95, with the case costing just $5, what I can't understand is why do the retailer's eyes "light up", when he could have sold the thing for $10 by not having a confusing pricing formula?
I suspect the guy wasn't of Asian persuasian

let x = camera y= case
x + y = 310
y = 310 - x
x = y + 300
Those are all given info.
Subs for x in equation
y = 310 - y - 300
2y = 10
y = 5
Therefore camera cost $305 and case $5
So change is $95

y = 310 - y -300
Move - y to other side of equation you have to add y to both sides
y + y = 310 - 300
2y = 10

Doesn't really matter how much change you should be given, you probably weren't given it all.

The hell with that: there's one like it EVERY week in the middle of our pub quiz. Usually simultaneous equations. I find them easier than the blasted anagrams he puts in

Oh yes, and that was only no 42 or so, and there`s 150 of them and they are getting harder. The strange thing is if you pay for the hints for this one it tells you that the differance in price is really $290.
