How fit are you? Last time I went was part of salsa-king's stags party and whilst I'm fairly fit (sub 2 hour half marathon) I was aching all over from running & from being shot for over a week afterwards...

Don't let that put you off, it's great fun but expect to get battered and sore. My favourite trick is standing out in the open just out of range like Colonel Kilgore on the beach in "Apocalypse Now" - "distracting" the other side

In the team games everyone has a habit of just spreading out, but try to get a leader in your team to direct people and plan a single attack strategy. 30 people in pairs spread over 400 yards of forest is ineffective, 20 attacking a single point with 10 providing cover and distraction works well as the defenders are forced to spread out to cover their perimeter. On games where both sides advance, let the other side do the majority of the moving early on and pick them off. When you have numerical superiority, strike hard.

It might get you in the swing of things if you watch "First Blood" beforehand

Where to start?

Wear supportive footwear - please God not bloody white trainers... something with ankle support.

The site will supply DPM overalls - I wear my own all black kit - EVERYONE says I will stick out like a sore thumb. I don't. The human eye is adjusted to movement, so if you don't move you are a black shadow - I have literally been 3 foot from someone (in an open field) and not have them know I was there until I moved (moved to shoot them)

If you can get them, fingerless gloves are a Godsend (keep your hands warm, more protected and allow you to shoot)

AS SOON as you get your mask head over to the calotherm bottles and soak the inside of the lens - shake the excees off and LEAVE it to dry. It's going to be cold at this time of year and lens always steam up. (I have double glazed lens AND a fan fitted to my mask)

Shout and Shoot - something I always say to first timers - see 'em spot 'em shoot 'em. Oh and "OVER THERE!!!!" doesn't help

Take a change of clothing - don't be shy about stripping off at the end of the day - you're gonna be disgustingly dirty.

Loads more I can say - that'll start you off

They have OTG masks (Over The Glasses); lots of people wear specs during play - I'm slightly short sighted and have glasses but I never wear them. this explains my profligate use of paint during a day

You (normally) get:
mask, overalls, gun (natch), ammo pack (web belt with holders for the refill tubes) with tubes, snood hood (goes over the head and helps protect the ears / top of the head)

Paint is cheaper the more you buy - so get together with mates and buy a box between you.

Oh, taking your own paint may not be allowed so check first - some (MOST!) sites will only allow their paint on the day (that's where they make the most profit)

I wonder if there's enough interest for an NSR paintball meet? It's been a while since I've been but I would certainly be up for it.

I'd be up for that, not been paintballing for a while now, but really enjoyed it when I last went.

It doesn't hurt. I shot my mates nephew 4 or 5 times the other day in the back garden and he didn't complain that much.

He did moan when I wouldn't let him have the gun so he could shoot me back though!

I usually wear a t-shirt and a padded shirt under my overalls but I agree with the boots comment, ankle support is essential - lots of running around and quickly changing direction, its easy to slip and injure yourself. Gloves are also important as a shot to the knuckles can really hurt so use padded ones if you've got em - personally I don't think fingerless gloves are that much help.
Take a rag or an old tea-towel to put in your pocket - if you get shot in the face (which is highly likely) you'll need to wipe the paint off so you can see, there's nothing worse than running round blind !
It stings a bit when you first get hit, but the bruises look a lot worse than the injury plus showing off bruises in the pub afterwards while exchanging tales of battlefield gallantry is all part of it !!

I wear full tru-spec Marpat camo with elbow and knee inserts.
Padded slided shorts with padded family jewels protection, Dye playing top under the camo, Dye gloves, Dye thermal goggles, padded hat or baseball cap, depending on weather, in Marpat, neck protector, load carrier vest to carry a spare 500 paintballs and run my gas tank off the rear on a remote.
Magnum boots, last time saw some idiot break his ankle in his white trainers
Use an old F4 illustrator or if the bugger works, customised Smart Parts Epiphany. Waiting to get a price on an Etek2.

Full idiot pose, camo but the red team hopper sort of gives you away!

Neck shot on a mate

Epiphany with 16" AA barrel, different inserts, QEV, Q lock and Blackheart board

Yeah but its crap and slower then semi auto when the fugger actually works!!!

Motherboard has a lot of different options for different tournament rules.
Some of the high spec markers will fire up and over 30 ***** per second such as the Egos, Angels and Dye DM series. Thats a scary rate of fire

Was a lucky shot, he usually has the collar pulled up and scrim wrapped round his neck but it was too hot.
He also uses this to protect himself

Pissed off at that shot so its tab time
