What is the world coming to....
I say he did exactly the right thing and I would have done the same in a heartbeat.
The fact that he is in prison for protecting his family is an utter and total joke.
He should be knighted not penalised!

It's still no right that he got banged up, though. Presumably the drug addled nutjob is now having a carribean cruise at the taxpayers expense as compensation.

He was only protecting his kids?
I would never have gotten out of the car to start with.. he should have just tried to drive away immediately...
It does seem a long sentence though - especially as the other guy kicked it off... does anyone know what happened to him?

He should get double Tesco points for being a right thinking person, but you should always think of the consequences. A right thinking person with a bit of nous would have buggered off with the family, then nipped round a few hours later with a baseball bat and a pair of gloves

I don't think he should have been locked up in one respect, however, from what I did read (it could be wrong), he mounted the pavement to knock down this yob. I genuinely feel for people terrorised by others (I've kind of been there, not to this extent), but it's one thing to act in fear, trying to get away from some nutter for example, and another to deliberately mow someone down, by going after them.
It's a sorry world we live in, and a sad day when a probably decent person has been driven to this (no pun intended).

Agree wholeheartedly about standing up for your family, but shouldn't your main priority be getting them the foof out of there?
What if the druggie has managed to harm the father like knock him out cold, or at worse, kill him?? it would have left his children in the car open to physical danger themselves...

I can't say how he acted, if this was the case, was particularly sensible, but I can certainly understand it.
If the police had dealt with the unsocial behaviour of this lot in the first place, as they should have done, this would most likely not have even happened.

Typical media sheep.
The bloke did not act to protect his family. He drove after the person , mounted the pavement and drove into a bush that the bloke was hiding in.
It was not self defence, it was retaliation.
This sort of twaddle:
"I would rather spend a 1000 years in jail knowing my son was okay, than a free man who had let any harm come to my son. "
Get a grip - that's nothing to do with this case.

If this is the case I think it is, then that petition seems to have omitted a rather important point or two: after being threatened, Mr Armstrong got away. SOME TIME LATER he saw his threatener whilst driving his van. He swerved OFF THE ROAD and onto the pavement in order to run him over. Which is why the courts refused to consider it self defence.
Still support him?

Signed.
The **** who got ran over got EXACTLY what was coming to him. It's a shame he didn't reverse back over him again. I couldn't have cared less if he'd have done it six months later.
He threated him with a knife and a baton. He got ran over for it. Natural justice.

F*cking outrageous. Judge should be shot for sending this man to jail. So should Tiggs.
Unfortunately this is what PC Britain is coming to. Criminals having more rights than their victims.
If it was me? after I'd run him over, I'd have got out and smashed his arms & legs with the metal bar he wanted to kill me with.
That other PC Numpty PeterBrant will be along soon to say the judge was right too.
