yes but i had it via ebay. some rubbish about EU rules. it will be because you've had your account a long time and weren't asked when you set it up.
They've also decided to force you to use paypal if you have under 100 feedback. deep joy. why the monopolies commision/unfair trading people haven't looked at the whole ebay/paypal thing yet is beyond me.

Yup it is genuine but don't click any links in the email just incase, i got one of these today as well.
Said about your account being registered before 2006 you haven't stated what type of account it is.
I just went into personal preferences and chose private, easy enough.

I hate the ebay business model with a passion. They were good to start with, but once they had a market share they just hiked up the prices all around. Each price seems small, but when you add up all the separate fees they are really starting to annoy me.
The issue is that there is basically no competition, and nothing seems to be done about that. There are other auction sites, but they have so little on they are barely worth using, which of course means nobody lists things there...chicken and egg situation.
Monopolies commission should make a search tool that compares all online auction sites. That would get ebay worried as they would have to compete on price.
