Default Marrying Your Cousin ?

Ok, have been at the wifes aunties house the last couple of days and she buys the Mail and the Express so I have been reading them and sitting there turning into "Incensed from Cheshire", however the Express was going on about Asian people marrying their first cousins which is alleged to be causing birth defects, infant death and long term health problems and it did strike a chord as we had a few disabled Asian kids at school, I didn't really think anything of it at the time but looking back it was disproportionate.

I am interested to find out whether this is Express propaganda or has some truth in it, I am not after a Muslim/Asian bashing session.

Also, has anyone heard of an English person having married their first cousin and how many toes the kids had, webbed or otherwise.

marrying your cousin is fine. you don't hear about it much but it happens plenty (lots of famous examples as well) - the problem is when you marry your cousin then your kids marry their cousins then their kids, etc.

That happens in some communities. its no surprise that these kids with 8 arms and bizarre conjoined twins are often from remote indian villages where the school disco has 30 kids and only 4 parents!

Look to royalty for examples - perhaps you can ask Charles if you can count his toes.

It isn't really considered an issue as a one off, but if you continue to keep the gene pool restricted, there does become a higher chance of both parents carrying and passing on problamatic resessive genes resulting in a birth defect of some kind.

Firdt cousin marriages are perfectly legal in the UK - ALthough recently there have been calls to review the law due to an apparant high number of birth defects resulting from these marriages.

Why do you want her ?

Seriously, tho' I work in Beeston (where the bombers come from.... that's a different thread !), and there are loads of feral/in-bred kids at school.
You upset one and thirty turn up with baseball bats.... all related.

Some streets are one family's "turf".

Not just the Asian community, tho' here it's mostly behavioural problems, rather than physical.

Just look at pedigree pets bred from the same family lines:

The most unhealthy animals are usually the pedigrees, whilst the mongrels are usually as fit as a fiddle. This has to be associated with inter-breeding

Now translate that to humans, if practiced it could be a potential issue.

I think you will find the behavioural problems are more down to bad and poor parenting, lack if disipline and a pack mentality, a lot of the causes of the antisocial behavioural problems we are now reaping the 'rewards' of now!

Can agree with you there Shark Man. I have a Pedigree Staffie, and he's always ill.

er- its fact- I work with it, day to day.

In Bradford 23% asian population-- which accounts for 50% of the disabled population in the city.

children born with birth defects, to the asian population far outstrips the european population- to such a degree, few other parts of the Uk compare to Bfd, baring Birmingham, Manchester Leicester etc.

The other factor is that the "average" white family will have less chidlren, asian families often are much larger, so problem is compounded.

Bfd has the 4th biggest budget in the UK to spend on adapting/altering its homes for disabled people.

the other terrible thing, is these marriages are often forced, as a way of getting poor villagers into the UK. terrible if yr an educated western muslim girl, asked to marry a barefoot uneducated villager just for the passport.

I also deal with black womens refuges etc, if anyone thinks I'm speaking without knowledge or on the back of being a daily mail reader ( )

Not when they all share the same two parents....
Live in a street full of cousins, and are of into their third generation.
I took thirty into Dalby forest last week and one couldn't "talk" to a CB....
Three bloody words !
It isn't parenting, but I agree that the lack of parental responsibility exacerbates the situation.

I know of a white couple who are first cousins and their first born child was still born, they then had loads of miscarriages and now have two children both with Downs Syndrome.

Ok that can happen to any couple but seems a bit odd considering they are cousins and young/healthy themselves.

There's also a section on your maternity records asking to tick the box if you and your babys father are blood relatives.

We have a very high Asian community here, and when my Mrs was pregnant the midwife had to do a survey thing with us, and one of the questions asked us if we were related in anyway.

I was quite surprised by this and a bit shocked, but she explained that many of the Asian community marry their cousins so they have to ask everyone the same question.
