The conservatives deny that their policy on the London Mayor was "a little extreme"

£25 pound for a day????? That definitely means its a tax on the less well off. Mercs and Range Rovers and people on over £50k it is then.

Actually makes it worth getting an Overfinch 4.6 litre Range Rover but running it on LPG, with the diff locks on, and not paying a penny OUTRAGEOUS! D

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that once Boris gets in he'll reverse all congestion charges instantly... Right?

I didn't realise that, but it is here: Ken Livingstone revisits £25 congestion charge | Politics | guardian.co.uk

Shocking. I hope he doesn't start expanding it as I work just outside of Chiswick and there is no way I can afford that.

Watching the pratt on sky news now, he just makes my blood boil

lies lies and lies oh and climate change Apparently the traffic in London at the moment is due to all gas and waterworks going on, the congestion charge works, we would be in total gridlock at the moment without CC

Congestion Charging
C02 Charge and CO2 Discount: February 2008
The central London Congestion Charge will, from October 2008, include a new CO2 Charge for cars and extended cab pickups with the highest greenhouse gas emissions and a low CO2 Discount for cars with the lowest greenhouse gas emissions. The CO2 Charge aims to discourage people who continue to drive in the zone from using higher polluting cars. The CO2 Charge will also seek to influence vehicle purchasing choices in the future and encourage the market for lower CO2 emitting cars.

The higher C02 Charge of £25 will apply to cars that emit over 225g of CO2 per kilometre. This includes those cars in Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) band G and equivalent and cars registered before March 2001 with engines over 3,000 cc in size. The majority of cars - VED bands C, D, E and those in F with emissions up to 225g CO2 per km, as well as those registered before March 2001 with engines up to and including 3,000 cc - will continue to pay the existing daily charge of £8.

The 100% discount will apply to cars with CO2 emissions of 120g per km or lower (equivalent to VED bands A and B) and which meet Euro 4 air pollution emissions standards.

Further details regarding the Mayor's decision can be found in the Mayor's decision statement, the Mayoral Approval Form and TfL's Report to the Mayor.

The guy is a complete ****ing **** and I wish someone would stick a very large knife through his militant racist egotistical heart, then shoot him for good measure.

Its true that boris is being very gagey about the CC, but I see no good or benefit to London to allow that idiot Ken in for another term. All he wants to do is to be in charge for the Olympics..well he can take a ****ing jump from something very high into something very shallow

Makes me laugh at his pathetic ramblings about "consultation". yeah like you took advice after the previous 4 "consultations" about the CC, expanding the zone west, increases of the charge etc. Bollocks did you

It would be ironic if the congestion charge eventually made London a ghost town that nobody wanted to visit

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said:

"Nobody needs to damage the environment by driving a gas guzzling Chelsea Tractor in central London. The CO2 emissions from the most high powered 4x4s and sports cars can be up to four times as great of those of the least polluting cars. The CO2 charge will encourage people to switch to cleaner vehicles

No it wont, paying 17 quid a day extra means you cant AFFORD to buy a new car!

or public transport

Nope, its crap, over crowded and undesirable!

and ensure that those who choose to carry on driving the most polluting vehicles help pay for the environmental damage they cause.

Hmmm care to explain how that actually works! Considering how much money it cost to impliment and run the CC last year

"We will be closely monitoring this scheme to ensure that goal of reducing traffic congestion in central London remains a central priority."

6% drop in the entire time that its been in place. Most of that is probably through businesses relocating. Great cash source though aint we

The Mayor has made clear that the new scheme is flexible and that both the charges and exemptions may be varied in the future to ensure that the twin goals of tackling traffic congestion and combating climate change are both achieved.

Or in English..... There is scope to hike the price of all other bands over time, and rest assured I will

VOTE BORIS !

Yeah he goes on about the consultations, but openly admitted he was only doing it as he was legally obliged to do so. And that his mind was already made up about it all.

225g CO2, thats probably half of most the vehicles on the road. Pretty much every work van that has to go into London to help put more money in their pockets will be hit. **** it, i'm going on benefits

******* hate Livingstone

He acts only in the interests of the scrounging immigrant scum living in London, and not the interests of the hard working Londoners who work in the city but commute in from outside London!

Can only hope he gets taken out by one of his beloved muslims in a bombing

Let me get this right.

No-one wants to go into the CC Area?

I would say that it has worked fantastically then ...... reducing congestion within the area prescribed?

Am I missing something?

Typical spin and b***ocks!!!

Save the enviroment blah blah blah, the truth....

Its nothing to do with being green or saving the enviroment its purely about taxation of the motorist yet again.

The harm it must be doing to the economy of London must be catastrophic

Next step - expansion to the entire inside of the M25, just wait and see.
Boris will be no better, the CC / CO2 Charge is here to stay.
For all those who live outside London and can't see a problem with it just wait a few years until it's hailed a success and rolled out countrywide.
I guarantee it won't stay at £25 either

Fortunately Ken isn't in charge of everything inside the M25, even though he seems to think he is.

Pete , yes you are missing something.
Many people work inside the CC area or need to travel into it to get treatment at one of the many hospitals inside the area.
Now they will be forced to either sell thier car and buy some utopian dream of a low CO2 car (ie death trap ****box) or face the misery of what is the worlds most expensive public transport system. All because they choose to drive an evil planet killing car (Subarus are included in this charge).
There was a refund scheme for hospital visitors for the £8 charge but now red ken says this wont apply to the higher CO2 cars , you'll only get £8 of your £25 back.
As if it wasn't bad enough creating congestion in the first place with all those 100 metre long bus lanes on roads built with car tax payers money, they introduced bendy buses which are quite frankly dangerous on Londons' roads and have claimed the lives of several pedestrians and cyclists. Now they are enforcing a law which decides which car you can and can't drive.
Idiots.

Totally agree 100%

Its because motorists just roll over and except it and no mainstream party are prepared to stand up and defend the 10 million+ motorists of this country because they know its a nice little earner.

Over 46 billion is collected in taxes from motorists yet only 8 billion is put back in to the infrastructure including public transport - the remainder no doubt is to support the goverments financial f**k ups, beaurecrecy and nice fat juicy pensions and fiddles that the MP's are allocated.
