I'm just wondering if you know the law on import charges for something that cost £15.22 from EU or USA. My local sorting office don't seem to, even the manager I spoke to.

EU = Zip
Customs = pot luck a lot of the time if they even pick up on it or not.

I thought it had to be over £18ish for them to apply customs/duty. That said, as Fraser says, its pot luck if they ever hit your package; correctly labeled or not

Has to be over £18 if listed as a "gift" to be taxed.

EU and USA are very different, and will depend on both WHO its coming from and WHAT it is

snazzy knows that customs are a joke at the moment, nobody knows what the hell is going on ,its been decimated and they have brought out new systems as well that arent worth a ****

There should be no duty either way, but Royal Mail are trying to charge me £12.22.

They can get stuffed. Making up their own damn rules.

You'll probably find that they are charging you £2.22 for duty and £10 for the pleasure of ripping you off

Yup, they tend to charge you a charge for paying the duties in advance for you. I had the same £3 taxes, £15 charge for paying them in advance for me! Jokers.

Yep, £15.22 was the price paid by me, including everything, to Amazon.

I've just had my droplinks and bushes arrive from the US via Parcelforce, £15 vat which is fine, but a £13.50 charge from parcelforce and if I don't pay it all, it goes back to the sender

Don't pay then, if they have to return enough they'll soon get fedup and remove the charge.

To be honest lads,
we pay out over 1 million every month on our vat deferment,
if you dont know what it is think of it as a big bank acct, you put money in and customs take it out for duty and vat payments. and ours always runs out, so an admin fee of a few quid for doing a customs entry is nothing at all when you think of the electronic entry, presentation of doc's to customs etc

i think they pay the money out for you and charge 13.00 for the pleasure as well.
honestly if you saw what had to be done its not unreasonable we try and charge companies arund 50 notes for the same thing
