Question

Heard recently that anyone under 40 on 1May this year will not be eligible for a state pension on reaching 65. As I'm 40 a few weeks later than this date it is rather worrying, especially as Ive paid in pretty much the same as someone born a few weeks before me.
Anyone know any more about this.

Chip.

what u probably hear was that anyone under 40 will get very little by the time they retire cause there is only so much in the pot- anyone who is relying on state provisons for their retirement needs to get a pension quick!

I'm not relying on state pensions for my retirement, just think its bloody unfair to have paid in the same as someone three weeks younger than me and get nothing back in return.

Could your source have been confused by the replacement of SERPS by the "State Second Pension" (or S2P as we like to call it ) from 6 April? That won't really affect people unless they earn < £24K when they'll be better off.

Wouldn't want to guarantee you'll all get your state pension at 65 though. Latest suggestion is that our wonderful government have set up an independant committee to review State Pension Age (and to tell Tony he'll need to increase it to 67 or 70).
