Red face Brace Yourself!!

Make the most of the mild weather ...... from next Thursday, for at least 10 days, the highest daytime temp will struggle to get above 2 degrees!!

Really, wow. I remember a similar thread posted a few weeks ago, saying we were in for 4 feet of snow. Remember the chaos that snow brought to the country? No? Neither do I.

Our dear old Met Office struggle to tell us accurately what the weather will be tomorrow, let alone in 6 days time!

I'm off to get my summer shorts out!

Mmmm... I don't quite know what happened to the Met Office. They seem to give more weather warnings than ever which just makes them getting it wrong even more embarassing.

Not the Met Office, but these:-

Metcheck.com - Global Weather Forecasts - [Updated on 25 January 2008 at 13:00] - Weather Feeds - Live Data - Long Range Weather Forecasts

They do tend to be pretty accurate!

Rubbish. The Met Office supply some very accurate forecasting but its people's interpretation of them that causes problems as they completely fail to apply local conditions. Even with TAFs/METARS you should see some of the way people decode the information and come up with some very strange weather information.

Explain the lack of 4 feet of snow then? IIRC, the OP of that thread quoted Met Office.

I would love some decent Winter weather!

Get the snow on the ground!!! Let my 4WD have some fun for Gods sake

Mind you, I'd be just about the only bugger in the office and everyone knows i have a 4WD car, so I'd have no excuse.....

There has been snow in certain parts of the country but the trouble is the media hypes it up and the general public laps it up failing to realise that it only applies up North or in the Midlands (insert the areas where snow actually fell) and assume that leafy Surrey is going to be snow bound.

If the weather stays as it is up here, but the temp drops to close to 0, it's gonna a monster snow season in scotland.

It's just been raining soooooo much recently, standing water across all lanes on motorways. It's a bloody nightmare.

Snow would be fun though.

Monthly forecasting
The weather beyond about a week ahead stretches even the most experienced weather forecaster. Complex numerical weather forecast models from the Met Office and the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) are run many times for the month (and season) ahead to build up a picture of the likelihood of different weather types affecting the UK.
Above taken from the BBC's weather page:

BBC - Weather Centre - UK Weather Services - The Monthly Outlook

Obviously fivealive's source is more informed than the BBC and the Met Office ....

ColdER certainly, but not a huge freeze.

Mmmm, well I usually look at the Met Office website for weather info, and they are just as wrong as everyone else. Are you now going to try and tell me that the Met Office let their own people interpret the data incorrectly?

Weather forecasting is woeful, it's barely right for the next day!
