This is brilliant! Why doesnt the British judicial system follow their lead?

BERLIN - German authorities have sent a 16-year-old delinquent to Siberia as a "disciplinary measure", according to reports published today, amid a heated national debate on juvenile crime.
The adolescent committed a rash of violent crimes in his home state of Hesse and was committed to a children’s psychiatric treatment centre before juvenile authorities decided last summer to send him to the Russian tundra.
The head of the youth social services office in the town of Giessen, Stefan Becker, told the daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the boy had a chaperone for his nine-month stay and was attending school a 2.5 kilometre walk from where he is staying.
He is living in Sedelnikovoa, a village of 5,000 inhabitants, in spartan quarters with no running water, heating provided by wood he has to chop himself and a latrine he had to dig, Becker said.
Winter temperatures in the region can hit -55 degrees Celsius.
Becker said authorities wanted to remove the boy "from the stimuli of consumer culture" in Germany and force him to confront his behavioural problems.
"The conditions are like what we had here 30 or 40 years ago," he said.
"It is not intended as a punishment but as an educational experience."
According to press reports, the cost of the "reeducation" programme amounts to 150 euros per day - one-third that of placement in a German institution.
In 2006 some 600 German juvenile delinquents were sent outside the European Union (EU) in a programme that has drawn fire of late due to sparring between Germany’s two main political parties over how to deal with youth crime.
Four years ago, an adolescent from Germany killed his minder in Greece and in 2005 a 17-year-old delinquent disappeared for several weeks in Kyrgyzstan.
Hesse premier Roland Koch, fighting for re-election this month, set off a storm of controversy when he called for a crackdown on young criminals, particularly those of foreign origin, by sending them to US-style boot camps or deporting them.
Critics have accused him of whipping up racist sentiment ahead of the January 27 poll and called for better implementation of existing laws and a focus on crime prevention.

Thants because it is a common sense solution. Tacking a problem head on before it get out of hand. Cant see that happening in modern Britain.
The attack which prompted all this political debate, happened near to where I live (two youths brutaly attacking an old man) . It was so rare it made national news!, has sparked a big national debate - quite refeshing for a occurance like this to be taken so seriously.
Some people have been jumping on the kick out forienger-racist bandwagon - which is quite bad - considering Germanys past. They are missing the point -these people are individuals foreign or not and they need to have the book thrown at them and be hauled of to Siberia.
Boot camps may be opening in Germany - some do exist now. Nip it in the bud I say

Shout to loud at a 16 year old youth that's just broken into your car, and it'll be against his human rights.
The PC/Human rights Brigages would have a field day if anyone suggested sending a child to Siberia

Sheer genius.
"Me and my cabinet appologise. It was an administartive error. We didnt mean to send the two youths to Disney World all expenses paid. Rest assured, this error will be corrected."
"Yes Gordon, but you wont be fired".

@ Both Steve´s , on a whole its not bad over here, especially if i compare to what you hear from BFBS News, the amount of crime in the UK is alot higher than here, i´ll agree too that. But in recent weeks especially down south, (U-Bahn ) its getting worse.. 2-3 Years ago things like that were almost unheard of.

The problem is, the people in power live in their sheltered little environments and dont realise the problems us normal people have to deal with, day in day out.
The first thing we need to do, isnt sending offenders to siberia, its sending the muppets in power to places that have crime issues. Maybe they should live in some crime ridden city for a month or two! They might then fully understand the gravity of the problems we face everyday.

Personally I think conscription should brought back in. If it's evident that you have no intention of getting a job or are a nuisance to society then it's off to the Forces to make you a someone worthy of a place in society.
