Any Burger King managers on here?
Or does anyone know if its company policy for employees to have to shave?
My son has been told to come home early from his shift because he has some stubble

Indeed, I would have a little chat to the spotty supervisor - I don't care if he has 5 Stars ... go get him!!
However, boot on other foot, would you like food served by some unshaven lad??

Good, it's a customer facing job. Encourage him to look presentable moving forward and support the manager's decision so that he may learn to respect authority. Out of interest, did you undermine teachers when they attempted to discipline him?

Surely whether you grow facial hair or not is your own choice and should not be used as something to discipline you over. I bet if he was wheelchair bound they wouldn't ask him to stand up as the customers don't like having to look down on him at the other side of the till. If I was your son I'd tell them to get to fvck

One of the guys at our place used to work at an insurance broker where no stubble was allowed (you'd get sent home if you weren't clean shaven) and they even had a maximum length allowed for sideburns!!!

Sorry, but to me this typifies modern Britain.
You're surprised that an employer has sent your son home for being scruffy - rather than being defensive and wanting to find out the policy so you can have a moan, how about bollocking him and making sure he's learnt his lesson. Pride and professionalism have to be more important than whinging and thinking it's ok to turn up at work looking scruffy.

You have to love this country. If you are black, pregnant, in a wheel chair, gay, can't speak english, female or overweight (or all of the above) companies are sh*t scared of you and nobody nowhere (not even the police) can tell you what to do. However, a young lad earning his keep - granted not in the most glamorous of positions - is told to go home because he has a little bum fluff under his chin.
It's times like this that I'm glad I'm off the radar and don't pay a single penny in taxes or in any way contribute to this country. If only I could duck out of VAT, duty, council tax I'd be a happy man!

On a serious note, the company I work for has a section in their policy and procedures file, which concentrates on personal appearance. It covers anything from shaving, personal hygene, what jewellery is allowed, dress code, the list goes on. So it comes as no surprise that he has been told to go home. These issues often come down to management discression, just some managers go by the book more than others.

To be honest,if it's the rules then you have a choice. Either comply with them or get another job.
My beef here isn't so much that some spotty little oink was sent home and told to shave (no offense paul, I'm sure your kid is great ). Rather I'm angry that we as a society are happy to tell young white able bodied males what way to sh*t but as soon as someone plays the disability or religion card we bottle it. A nation of pussies. We door more in this country to care for people that have roots in or were born in another part of the world than we do for our own kind.
P.S. Paul if you tell me your kid is a disabled black cross-dresser my whole argument fails

So you feel that the manager should not enforce company policy based on your issues with liberal attitudes towards minorities? Poppycock, Saxo Boy!

whos infracting me?
Its some peoples religion to have a beard, and its some peoples choice (like mine) to have a bit of designer stubble. I dont think its fair in this day and age to tell someone in any work place that they have to shave to look smart. We are a country that can tolerate lots of things for lots of different types of people. Yet for the average joe, they must meet perfect standards.
