Do you need to be taxed to park in a carpark
I live in a small residential estate, with a carpark next to our flat, the Scoob at the mo is sitting tucked in the corner nicely, it is SORN at the moment. As I was thinking of keeping it off the road during winter.
So the question is is this legal?
Just to confirm it is a private estate if that makes any difference.

if its private property/land you are legal but if the car is parked on the highway or council or public property/land it should be taxed

Hi Cookstar.
The answer to your question will be ' who maintains the car park?' Do you pay for an upkeep to it or do the council maintain it.
Also, if not taxed MUST be SORN..
Hope this helps....

If you're worried ring highways and planning department at your local authority who will tell you whether or not the estate roads and car parks are adopted or pending adoption as highway.

The chances are you will have to pay tax.
I think the only exception to that is if you/landlord or some residents society actually pay towards the cost of upkeep of the carpark. As mentioned above, if the carpark is adopted by the council then you need tax.

If its a car park / road / land, which is privately owned and maintained, then you are ok.
This only applies to VED, you still have to go SORN but you know that.
You may still find some helpful soul plonks a CLE2/6 on your car at some point but just send proof that the land is owned and maintained privately and you wont hear any more.

If it's icy just spin round in the car park and save £20 !

P.S. I live on a private road, and the fcukwit parking by my numpty neighbours does my head in, 'cos I'd need a solicitor to change their minds.... Grrrrr

I can - just - understand your desire to keep the car off the road for the winter, but what steps are you taking to keep it in good order? Personally, I'd use it once a week on a nice dry day to make sure the car stays in good nick otherwise you'll find that it will cost you a hell of a lot more than the savings on the RFL to fix the inevitable problems from standing unused.
