That's true, but, no matter how much someone earns, they'll always want that little bit extra. Clarkson is no different - it's all relative.
He's accustomed to his current level of earnings, and is flexing his muscles the best way he knows how. i.e Controversy !

"Beeb's North Pole Slur Leaves me cold"
"in the wake of all the faking scandals, the BBC is hosting a seminar to explain to all it's staff what is acceptable and what is not.
I was very proud when the film selected to show how it should be done was the Top Gear Special when I drove a pick up truck to the North Pole.
Then I read the small print. They were telling everyone that some of the driving was done by a stunt man but because I had been there and had gone to the pole, it was alright.
This is utter, complete and total bollox. Yes, some B roll footage was taken before we set off. But apart from a 300 yard stretch when james May was behind the wheel, and crashed through the ice, I swear on my childrens eyes, I drove every single freezing dificult miserable inch.
I hated every minute but not as much as I hate the idea that people are now being given the impression - by the BBC themselves - that a stunt driver was at the wheel for some of the time."

As far as I know Clarkson isn't an employee of the BBC
Top Gear is produced by an independent production company (owned by Clarkson, Andy Wilman and others IIRC) on the BBC's behalf.
If what Clarkson says is the truth (and it's likely to be), then he has every right to be p!ssed off with them

There are 4 people that make TG what it now is... and although he doesn't present, the Stig (well the charactor that plays him) is playing an ever increasing role in the show
