That's a First!!!
Refused a Shop Credit Card!!
Lady at the till asked if I would like a card, get 10% off my purchase? I said, how long will it take? 10 minutes she said ............. well I had an expensive item so 10 minutes for £££££££s was a reasonable rate of return.
Went through the blurb .......... DING - REFUSED A CARD!!! WTF?
Bit concerned now Got the wife to put her name in as the applicant ... DING - REFUSED!!
So, it must be the address rather than the person ....... what the hell has happened there then? Spooked me up a bit as I have no debts. You don't think CURRYS have black-balled me do you?
I did tell my Credit Card to put the CURRYS amount in 'DISPUTE' on the account - could that be it? Surely not!?

I had this with Halifax, checked my credit rating, got back the rating for all occupants of the house, everything was huncky dory, credit cards all paid off in full every month etc., guess they realised they weren't going to get a penny out of me and so declined.

It could simply be because I do clear my CCs each and every month and I said I don't want their Insurance?
They would get nowt out of me, ever ........ so, maybe it's just that simple?
I may apply for a CC online and see if there is any issue there (rather than paying to get a credit check for myself?)

Yeah, but they don't get anything out of you. Not worth the paperwork, are you?

All CC companies are tightening up their criteria for handing out cards compared with a year ago.
Spend the £12 with equifax and find out the story, if it is Currys then you'll have some more ammunition.
Making further applications online which may end up being declined for the same reason certainly won't help your credit rating.

Sadly NOT the case. Moving house wipes your history so to speak. Not entirely sure why if you only move once, but seems to be the case. Especially if you move to an address with a poor history.

I thought it was £2 each to the two Credit Companies??
Making another application for a CC will show whether I need worry or not - need to find a CC to apply for now.

I was declined for the very same offer at the same store (debs)
never been refused before, found this very strange and embarassing.
wonder if everybody is declined any nobody has ever noticed.

Don't worry Pete - There are basically a pile of companies out there who can no longer raise any cash to lend on credit cards, loans and mortgages. Now if you apply for a card you will be refused if they can find any reason, or given a credit limit of £100.00 if they can't find a reason to decline you. As far as I know, Debenhams credit is managed by GE Money, which is really GE Capital, which is the biggest "non-bank" in the world. Their business model makes NR look like a safe bet.

My Wife was declined in exactly the same store a few weeks ago, no real reason for it either ? Just a though but she also declined their card insurance ...hmmmm I wonder if they are just trying to get people to sign up for the insurance ?

As above, if you opted out of their insurance they will be more likely to refuse credit.
A similar thing happened to me when applying for a car loan although it was not a refusal. Right up to the point I said I wouldn't need their insurance I was getting their "typical" advertised rate, afterwards the apr shot up. I would have been cheaper to take the insurance. Bloody con if you ask me.

No - They have no money - It wouldn't matter if you accepted insurance.... If they approve the card and give you 500 quid credit limit, you spend the 500 quid, they have to pay it out. They don't have money to do this, so they need to ensure that you can't spend the money. They also supply cash for a couple of supermarket visa card companies. I recently had a Visa credit limit cut from £15,000.00 to £100.00. I called to ask then the reason and they said I no longer met their credit scoring criteria. I knew what was going on, but wrote to them to ask them for an explanation. Apparently I now had a low credit score as I moved house 18 months ago. This is a perfectly reasonable explanation except I only applied for the card and was given the credit limit 12 months ago. So basically they don't want me to go and blow 15k, as they can't borrow the 15k at any rate to pay the company where I spend the money
