Default Bank Card Fraud

Just a quick reminder to everyone to be extra cautious at this time of year.

It was pure luck I checked my online statement this morning and noticed 4 unauthorised transactions on my account, all from yesterday. Seems someone had been buying O2 and Three mobile phone topups to the value of £100 with my card details (guessing because they are easy to resell for cash). The card has been stopped and the bank will refund me, but it could well have been a lot more if I hadn't noticed so soon.

I am super careful with my card details, so can only assume that an employee in one of the companies I have bought stuff from, has copied down and sold off my card details.

So just be extra careful and check your statements regularly (so the criminals have a less prosperous Christmas than they were expecting)

PAYG phones are untraceable hence why its a favourite with the card thiefs.

Any other 'theft' can be traceable, ie buying goods from internet requires delivery address etc.

People think I am crazy but I always, always cover my pin inputting hand with the other one so even I can't see the buttons. It helps if you choose a pin that's easy to type in when unsighted - eg 5214 so you put your finger in the middle of the pad, cover your hand carefully and then complete an anti-clockwise sequence.

And no, that's not MY PIN!!

I've been doing that for years, but good advice anyway for others that don't.
