Okay, how is this possible?
watch this:
YouTube - HIND UFO
The rotors appear to be stationary, but how is it flying?
And for those that think its a model, this video disproves it.
YouTube - HIND UFO 2
For starters you see the sun glint off the blades at 23 seconds so they are stationary, but secondly, look at the size of the thing compared to the crowd!
I'm baffled, any suggestions?

It's to do with the high speed shutter on the camera. The rotors are turning like normal (you can hear them) but the video camera shutter is 'freezing' them in nearly the same place in each frame.
Something to do with aliasing, I think.....

YouTube - Helicopter refueling accident
Rotor blades bend when the aircraft is manovering. this stay perfectly stiff. Somethings definitely up

UFO Helicopter! This unusual video shows a MiG Hind Helicopter in flight at a Russian air show. What makes it amazing is that the speed of the camera and the rotors are almost precisely synchronized, making it look like the helicopter has no visible means of support!

It's a neat video because of the co-incidental frame rate, but there's really nothing to see here...

Hind has steel based composite blades. Incredibly stiff, and they don't bend under normal loading. I was blown away at how little they move in flight, and even mor eby how little they droop at standstill. (Though the earliest and very latest ones are more conventional) I've spent quite a lot of time in and around them. Great helicopter, built like a tank. Flies a bit like one, too, but it's ever so predictable. For example, you can predict 100% that if you lose the engines it will do its best to turn upside down before crashing. You can also guarantee that you will nearly get a hernia trying to flare on autorotate... But it was still one of the most entertaining helicopters I've ever flown

It was one of the perks - when the wall came down we got the opportunity to evaluate former WarPac kit that might be used against us elsewhere. I was a recent civvy, back in on a consultancy basis so was ideal. Plus I speak some Russian, which helps a lot in conversion to type... Got to fly the Kamov Werewolf as well (then called Hokum) which was unbefarkinlievable. Made the Apache feel like an Allegro. Both in build quality and performance...

It's just the camera effect and nothing more sinister.
I took footage with my digital camera of an Air Ambulance landing and taking off in the highlands this year and the blades were hardly turning in the footage but yet the helicopter was operating normally to the naked eye. I still have the footage but can't be hooped to upload it somewhere.

If you think about it Simon, Hinds are bound to fly like tanks, they are pretty much just T72s with big fans on top after all

It has to be the frame rate of the video being the same as the RPM of the blades. You can hear the blades rotating and flapping. Most unusual effect and very interesting to see. Thanks for posting it.
