Default Alcohol Buying Restrictions

Hello

Are there any restrictions in Supermarkets these days regarding what times alcohol can be purchased?

I have to buy some wine and beer to give to someone early tomorrow morning and I wont get to the 24hr Supermarket until close to midnight ...

Thanks,

Steve

10pm is the latest you can buy alcohol from supermarkets here in Scotland, not sure if it's the same for the rest of the UK though.

Wouldn't it depend on the licence of each individual supermarket?

Tip - phone them and ask?

When asda went 24 hours they stopped serving alcohol after 11pm (normal drinking hours) but they do serve throughout the night now since the new 24 hour drinking laws came in.

Fair enough. Give us the branch, I'm sure some kind soul will phone them for you (that's not an offer, I think from this distance would be extracting the michael a bit much!)

EDIT - et voilà!

Thank you! Sorted -- it is an Asda on my way home, so it appears to sell 24 hours.

I always wonder why a young person on the till has to get approval to sell you some alcohol.

A checkout operator can be 16 and its illegal to sell you the alcohol if theyre not 18 themselves

Since tesco and asda went 24 hours my mate (asda security guard) reckons there is a constant flow of drunk drivers staggering in to get their next fix after 1am. Police are notified but little gets done
