Default Covering the passenger window

Is it Illegal? My brother has smashed his passenger window and asked is it illegal to cover the window with a bin bag and drive around. My first thought is yes as its obstructing the view but Im not entirely sure so thought Id ask here before advising him...

Any thought?

TIA

Dave

Can't he buy some "transparent" film from Halfrauds and use that instead?

No, you can buy a roll of stuff specifically to cover smashed windows. Not sure how it attaches though. Duct tape? Drawing pins?

Don't be silly you just wrap it around the entire car a few times.

Also consider acrylic sheet from your local DIY centre and cut it to fit, make it more secure as well.

IIRC there are regs about how much tint you can have on the front side and windscreens, so I suspect the 100% tint of a black bin back is going to be an issue.

Having said that, the chances of him coming across a copper on the roads are so slim as to not be worth worrying about and speed cams won't pick it up

As long as he's still got the use of 2 mirrors, ie the interior rearview and the offside wing mirror then it's fine

NO! If it is the front passenger window it MUST be clear to see through at all times.

And if he has an accident through being unsighted comnig out of a junction or somesuch, they'll throw the book at him.

So unless he can get some clear perspex from B+Q/DoItAll or this stuff from Halfrauds, tell him to park the car somewhere safe and get it fixed on Monday.
