What is this dvd player worth ?.
The player is an Arcam Diva DV79, has only been used once to check everything is working before sale. Also boxed with leads and all that. So what is it worth ?.

It is probably the best DVD player on the market unless you start getting into STUPID money ( 2-3 Grand for a DVD player was just too much for me to get past the wifey)

Not second hand it isn't.
Arcam have brought out a new range - I got my DV79 about a year ago for approx £600
Discounted from £800 as a new range was imminent.
A year down the line - You'll be lucky to see £300

Not to put any downers on here, but isn't almost a little pointless paying that kind of money for any dvd player now, especially as DVD's will be phased out making way for more HD & Blu Ray
Guy at work has just sold his entire DVD collection now, as in 12 months time it will be worth a hell of a lot less
Even Blu Ray and HD are being looked at to be replaced

I use the AV79 just to play Music CD's and STD DVD's
Went down the XBOX360 HD Route for now till the battle over HD / Blu-Ray is settled. Reckon it'll end up HD though. That or Dual Players.
I used to be an early adopter but that is expensive and quality early on gets quickly superceded.

Just adding to your post sonic, i heard a rumour that HD blue ray will be replaced by using MP3 style memory sticks and they would plug in the front of a plasma or lcd. The thing is it might or might not reproduce the same quality as some higher end dvd players. If it wont better it then i wont buy it.

I once too was an early adopter, and had DVD when there was less than 100 titles out in America (Britain had 3 or 4 demo discs)
Now I still have a DVD player (several in fact ), havent even begun to go down the Blu Ray/HD thing, and probably wont until everything settles down and a leading/primary format will emerge, now this may never happen and we will always have (for the forseeable at least) both formats
Ive long since given up the 'collecting' films as I must have wasted thousands on Video & DVD 'collector' films to now find them bargain basement throwaways in ASDA etc for half the price of a pack of smokes
I am surprised we havent got solid state technology quicker than has been coming, we have had it for a very long time, just not in acceptable quantity, leading me to believe that it is still relatively cost prohibitive and cheaper to manufacture the compact disc (DVD/Blu Ray/HD etc) format and the players that require them, same with Hard Discs
So Nathan it could well be in another few years time there will no longer be players just memory card readers, and im sure given time it will better what we have now
