They have some sort of a point. IIRC 29% of the greater London population are non-white, and they have probably the touchiest relations with the police, so some PR is necessary. It's when they do this nationally, where only 8% of the population are non-white, that it's overkill.
No idea about the male/female balance though.

Looks like the met are going for the most PC PC of the year then.
this country has enough problems without this sort of stupic pc-gone-mad bollox. The met should be ashamed of themsleves, 15k of their money would be better spent funding a cop for 6 months rather than a dummy - if we wanted a dummy we would loook towards Sir Ian Blair, if we require three then Brown and the home secreatary (her name escapes me) would do just fine.

you know summet, i feel discriminated against cos i am white... lets look at the evidence... they are removing christmas, cos its deemed as unfair against other religions... (who celebrates xmas, mainly whites).. blackboards and white boards have been removed from schools (now called information centres!), there are other examples, like the dummy from the police... the thing is tho, if whites scream racism, we get ignored.... why??
