Default Our own sad day.

I am so very sorry to say that our beautiful British Short black cat died in Mrs Leslie's arms at 2 am today.

We had him for some 22 years and he was a really individual character. We have lost all those greetings when we came home and his announcements to the world when he came back in the house. He used to talk back to us so we will miss those unintelligible but so important conversations that we used to have with him. He was so affectionate and we will also miss all those little presents he used to leave for us on the doorstep after a good night's hunting.

I have posted this purely to share our grief with the large number of animal lovers on Scoobynet. They will understand how we both feel and it does just a bit to make me feel a little better on a very bad day.

Les

Sorry to hear this Les

I lost my 'Piphead' after 14 years, as she was run over last January, she is buried in the front garden with a small cross, I still miss her now

22 years is quite a good age for a cat, take some comfort in that fact he has had such a good long life

Awww, that's really sad to hear. That's a remarkable age for a cat!

My last cat used to chatter away to us too. Not the usual meowing.

They certainly leave an empty space when they are gone.

22 years - wow, that's a long time for a cat, he must have had some great times with you both.
Both of ours are very talkative too, so I know what you mean.

As cat owners and lovers, we have had a couple of cats who were run over, and other who have lived years. Feel glad that you have had your cat as part of your family for uch a long time. You never stop missing them, but thinking of the good times will certainly bring a smile back to your faces.

Sorry to hear for your loss

Look back on the good times. I still miss 2 of my cats - Buster whom I had when I was 7 until I was 18 and Brian who I only had for a few years (he was already old when I had him), both were great cats.

You'll always remember the good times, just give it a while and look back with fond memories.

Lost my litter mate (Born same year as me) last year at 27. She had slept with me on my bed for all that time.
Strange how big a hole in your heart losing an animal can leave.
Still have one of her kittens (16 now).

Les, sorry to hear that - 22 years is going some!

Only those who have had a pet for a long time, I'm thinking dogs, cats, horses, tortoises and such like - know how heart wrenching it can be.

Thank you all so much for your kind messages. Despite our sad loss you have helped us quite a bit to stand it and it is wonderful to hear so many good wishes from everyone.

Yes we shall always remember the good times with "Floyd". He was a real character and it is great that he had such a wonderful time himself out in the fields and hedgerows around us. It must have been like Christmas every day for him and would have helped contribute to his great age eventually.

Thanks again---Les

22 years is some innings!! One of our cats lasted 20 and the vet remarked on it! You should be proud of the long and happy life you gave him.

Be grateful for having known him, be thankful for having loved him, and look back on your time together with only happiness- he wouldn't have wanted you to be sad.

All the best,

Paul

Further to my sad tale.

We have been offered a cat called Fred from a split marriage. He is a black short with white socks, three years old and fit. He is a very friendly chap and he had certainly read the book on how to make you want to take him home!

The house has seemed empty so we are going to take him on and will pick him up later today. Mrs Leslie and I are looking forward to getting him, even if he has a very tough act to follow.
