Things to do in Hong Kong
Going to Hong Kong next week has anyone got any tips on good things to do??
Has anyone taken the trip to mainland China(can't pronounce the name of the town) to get cheap goods?

I really want some fairly good quality fakes (oxymoron)
Last time I went I couldn't find any decent fake goods anywhere they must have had some sort of crackdown or something

Hello
I love Hong Kong, probably because it was one of the first 'exotic' places I went when I was young.
Anyway, The Peak at night, Temple Street Market, Snake shop (watch out if they kill any by cracking them like a whip!), LanTau island (large Buddha), Bird market, Jade Market, Star Ferry, lots of temples etc..
Fakes are not really that prevalent in Hong Kong anymore. There are some at the Temple Street Market (watches, bags, clothes) and more on the main tourist road in Kowloon (Nathan Road) where you get dodgy men asking you if you would like a watch.

If you'd like an exceptionally good drinking hole, try Schnurrbart on D'Aguilar Street in Lan Kwai Fong. Any cabbie will know it.
For an upmarket night (western) club that won't stripe you, go to JJ's on the 15th floor of the Grand Hyatt hotel in Wan Chai - bar/restaurant/live music/club, each separated by soundproofed floor-to-ceiling glass walls. neat. For 70s nostalgia and a seriously wow view while you eat, go for the Revolving 66 (it revolves, no really) on the 62nd floor of the Hopewell Centre, also in Wan Chai. I expected to see Roger Moore creaking a knowing eyebrow at me...kitsch but sort of cool. Food is so-so but it's worth it for the view alone.

Do all the touristy things like shopping along nathan road monk kok, peak tram, Jumbo floating resturant, but to see another side to Hong Kong that where not many tourists venture out further than the Kowloon area, but to get a feel of life out of the city, take a KCR train out to the New Territories to Shatin where theres a huge shopping mall, Shuen Wan and Tai Po Market (where my parents are from) and the outlying villages and take a cycle ride out the huge resevior and country parks. Take some insect repellent, the mosquitos can sniff out a tourist from miles away!

For fakes you need to go to Shenzhen. The market there is full of handbags, DVD's, watches etc etc. You can catch a train from Hong Kong to China. Cant remember the name of the port but its famous and very busy. Get ready for a long wait. I think it was pronounced loo pow or somthing similar.
Takes bout 40minutes, as far as I can remember. Make sure you get a Chinease visa from UK before leaving. You dont need a visa to visit HK as you have British passport but you still need for China. I went in 2004 and China was much much better than Hong Kong. Fantastic place and would love to go again. Met some of craziest people in my life there. I actually found HK boring, not much to do there. The people of HK were also very reserved and conservative. Bit of a police state and very strict. China is much better.
