Sat Nav Security - Question
I recently purchased 100-off Garmin C510 Sat Navs for one of our Engineering groups at work, a group of thieves targetted 5 vehicles in a car park and stole a Sat Nav from one of our company cars (crow-barred the boot open).
The local police stated that the thieves are using technology to detect Sat Navs in the boot (blue tooth detection device or similar).
1) Has anyone heard of this occurring?
2) I'm sure the C510 units are not bluetooth - can they be detected by other means?

Thanks for the replies - believe me, the employee will pay for his Sat Nav as this was part of the deal.
So, if the unit is not switched on, then it cannot be detected. I'll wait for a few more replies before this myth is dispelled.

tbh if they have forced the boot open and thats where it was being kept, I would be inclined to say they saw it being put there.
Even if it could be tracked and detected, it would be an effort to isolate the signal to the boot, one of the most shielded parts of the car.
If the boot was just the means of entry to the car, thats bizarre in itself.

agree with rest, the bluetooth can only be decected if its sitched on, as the unit is a receiver it cannot be detected any other way.
The Garmins have something called Garmin Lock, which if used renders the unit useless to a wood be theif.
Make sure your employees remove the bracket and clean the sucker mark from the windscreen after use.
I always store my sat nav away around the corner from destination, to make sure nobody seems me put the sat nav away / remove sucker mark etc..
