Bearded Dragons - Advice Please
My daughter is harping on for one of these for Christmas. I am not interested in what Google comes up with. I would like some personal experiences. I have two cats, are they going to be after it. Best way to keep them, does the tank have to be heated and costs, feeding etc. Oh and how big are they.
I think they are vile but depending on the replies, she may get her wish

Lizard that grows to 24", eats live food, needs a big tank/cage to live in and can live for 10 years.......and you think their vile. Maybe you need to think it through?
Kids and pets - when they are under 10 they are too young, when they are over 10 they are going to be teenagers soon and will lose interest....once they are teenagers they need to get out more if they want a lizard instead of going out with mates.

We had two, after a month the novelty wore off mainly through the twice weekly trips to the pet shop for live food ! (Crickets). Fortunately we were burgled and they were taken, honestly......
They were cool to handle etc but the costs for the year for food and electric would have really mounted up.
Why not a milk or corn snake, a perfect start to reptile ownership and they eat defrosted mice so easy to stock up food !

She is 13 and has loved reptiles all her life. I now think she is old enough to be responsible. I am trying to persuade her to go for something a little smaller like a Leopard Gekco (sp), she could be swayed
lordlucan, believe it or not, snakes are the only reptiles she does not like

Our is 24" long with about 75% of it's life to go. Lives in a four foot tank with heat and light. Plenty of water and moist air. Ours is a very friendly chap and even likes to hang with the dog.
He likes sitting looking out of the french doors and loves human cuddles
All in all a great pet to own.
We have had Leopard gheckos in the past and keeping them is a little more invoved than with the Bearded Dragon as I found leopards tended to be pickier with food and not as robust.
