Default Sky HD...£169

For those of you with sky HD would you reccomend it?

You can now get a sky HD box for £199 and £169 if you have been with them for 3yrsSeems like a good price considering its initial release £299 cost.

A couple of questions...

1) Does it improve or upscale normal SD viewing?
2) How many HD channels do sky offer now?
3) Is there an additional subscription charge for sky HD?

Im getting annoyed with the crap quality SD picture through my HD screen. I know the HD channels at the moment are quite limited but the main question is, will it improve SD viewing also?

got to take out Sky Broadband, Sky Talk and/or multi room package to get that deal at £199. Then if you've been with Sky for 3+ years you get a £30 discount making it £169.

1. No
2. A page worth
3. Yep. £10 a month

However... it's almost worth it for BBC HD which looks bloody amazing, and Nat Geo HD

I have had sky hd for some time and i have to say you have to consider what you will be watching.
I watch a lot of football which is nearly always in hd so i think it is worthwhile aside from sport as previous post says nat geo and bbc hd programs are really good.
So you must consider what you will be watching without doubt it is the future but how long before all programs are hd needs to be considered.

If you have SKY you can upgrade to SKY+ for free.

Just lie and say you work nights so never around to watch anything and cancelling. You'll get it free.

If you want to upgrade to SKY HD. Buy the HD box off ebay for £150. Sell the SKY+ box for £90. Ring SKY and get them to pair your card to new box. (although you won't have a warranty on the box)

Up to you then to add the £10.

PLUS - get the sky dude to let you keep your existing old box and bung him a couple of notes to put a cable in your bedroom.

Multiroom for an extra £10.

Job is a good one indeed. I turned movies off becuase they were all rubbish so it only costs £2 more than when I had movies.

I was under the impression, normal SD viewing was improved or upscaled with HD box?

Might just wait until there's a lot more HD channels then as at the moment this is whats annoying me.

HDTV with an SD input = Rubbish

CRT for quality anyday

Edd...I take it thats an additional £10 per month for multiroom?

Is there anyway of 'fiddling' this?

Also... I take it the £10 charge for HD is waived if you are paying the £10 charge for multiroom?

Mitch - No its £10 of HD & £10 per room for multiroom. I think there is a way around it but i am not to sure. I have some rooms linked up to the one box as they all dont get used at the same time.

Agree with you mostly - but I think the HDMI connection improves PQ a little compared with SCART.

Worth it I'd say, but only if you get it cheaper than the regular £299 price tag.

I will personally wait until there are far more channels available in HD.

I had Sky + as soon as it came out, but can't be bothered with HD yet.

Thats rights its 10 each for multi and HD.

I've heard some people say SD quality is improved with the HD box but I don't see why. HD needs twice as much bandwidth as SD to broadcast so I doubt it will be every channel for the near future.

Some channels look better than others and indeed some programs.

We have a Panasonic PX42 and Holby for instance looks awful - like someone forgot to turn on anti-aliasing. But then F1 on the ITV looks fine and no jaggies.

You can get a box that allows your SKY box to be controlled from another room but your stuck with that channel. We need 2 seperate feeds for the aforementioned F1. Or babestation if I fancy a quicky
