Default Radio 1 broadcast - Now here is a long shot!

23 years ago Radio 1 broadcast a concert from Marillion's traditional UK Xmas tour. This would have been 1984, the exact date I'm not sure although the venue was The Hammersmith Odeon.

the tracklist played that night was

Assassing
Garden Party
Cinderella Search
Punch and Judy
Jigsaw
The New Direction
Fugazi

The New Direction was introduced as part of side one of an album that was to be released the following May/June, Fish joked that the album contained two tracks, one called side 1 the other called side 2. This went on to become Misplaced Childhood. The recording is interesting as the tracks were unfinished and had very different lyrics compared to the released album. Especially Kayleigh!

I have the recording on tape, but would like an mp3 version of better quality. Would anyone have any idea if I could get hold of it.

Told you it was a long shot!

I was going to suggest trying some of the bootlegging places as there is usually quite a lot of stuff for sale

Or even the Marillion forums themselves

You could always ring Kayleigh and ask her?

Best Of Luck Though.

I once remember hearing Gary Moore on the Tommy Vance Friday rock show playing Parisienne Walkways. Truly a fantastic performance.

I remember listening to the broadcast Matt, but didn't have the sense to record it

If you do find an mp3, be sure and tell us

Most of the recordings seem to be taped bootlegs. I have the tape but I'd like it on mp3, I don't really want to buy a USB tape drive just to do this one tape. I'll do as suggested.

Shug, that was the main Fugazi tour, this one I believe is mid December and definitley Hammersmith. The Xmas tour was in support of the Real to Reel live album.

I've used an old tape recorder to record some of it onto my PC. again excuse the quality, the old TDK C90 Cassette is pretty old now. This is the intro, Pseudo Silk Kimono and Kayleigh.

I still rate Misplaced Childhood as one of the best albums they have done (bar Kayleigh and Lavender) I have forgiven them for those two now

I like Fugazi. Must admit, I went off them after Brave which I thought was a bit overblown.

Loved Brave and Afraid of Sunlight, parts of This Strange Engine were good, but since it has been fairly bland.
