right here is the story me and the misses have moved in to a new house its a three bed with smallish garden the misses is out and about most days going to the horse yard and my parents land now we have at the moment taken a 17month old rottweiler (an entire boy called ki ) on trial from a lady who has got time for him to look after him properly he has been as good as gold with every thing he has come across even other dogs kids + people he doesnt know!!

im looking for advice form people that have had them got them and just any experiences you would like to share?

ours is great with kids and other people! at 17 months most of the hard work has been done, just remember to keep the basics in place. as they are a dominant breed and will try to be the head of the house if you let him.

As shaggy said in his post at 17 months most of the hard work had been done.Just remember that he will not be fully mature untill about 3 years old.

By the sound of it he's been very well socialised from an early age witch is very important for a breed like a rotie.Just keep an eye on him that he does not try and start pushing the rules as they will try and work there way up the pack but if you have rules and stick to them you should have no probs at all. they are fantastic dogs with a very wrong reputation. Most important of all mate just enjoy having him if he's anything like my dog he'll turn into your best mate.

I agree with what has been said, that as long as he is last in the pecking order they are lovely pets. Important that he knows everyone is above him. No good him behaviour perfectly whilst you are there and then trying to take over once you leave the house as happened with a friend of mine. The dog thought the missus was his new love toy until she hit it on the head with a frying pan

once i told alot of people we were getin one all i got was they are a dangerous dog i wouldnt have one but he is lovely and nothing seems to bother him at all just gave him a bath think i got more water on me than he did on him lol im takin him to the vets at 6 to get him checked over i think he is a bit under weight il post some pics off him when i get back thanks for the advice guys

we treat our one like a pet not a guard dog. let him meet everyone long walks and the one that make me feel a bit sick raw meat

Just shows that they know bugger all about dogs mate! The way a dog behaves is a reflection on the owner of how well it's been bought up.It realy p***** me of when people say roties are dangerous just because some **** holes have them as pets to try and look hard and have no idea how to raise them properley.Also the people who have small yappy dogs who bite but get away with it.The dog is still showing agrestion and biteing someone but just because it's a small dog they laught about it or think it's ok.I've lost count the amount of time my dog has been bitten by a little yappy dog down the park. Rant over lol
