Off road toy suggestions
ok we have just bought 50 acres of farm land behind our house (well my dad has) at the min we have a 350 Yamaha quad big bear, the utility one for pulling trailers etc as we have horses. it’s a great bit of fun to have a play on but its some what slow and with the new land 35mph on the red line gets very dull so I am looking for a better toy with a bit more kick.
Looking at 5K ish max spend
so far I have been looking into the Honda 450R race ATV but don’t know if this will be too fast (is that possible ) any ideas would be great, must have 4 wheels don’t think bikes are such a good idea ……
thanks for your help

do a search on quad bikes, there are a few thread pertianing to them.
In a nutshell
unless Yam, Suzuki, Honda, Polaris, any of the big names then generally they are from China and a lot cheaper often half the price. Built to a spec and quality and will not lasrt as long, stick to some of the better known names such as RAM which use a chinese copy engine from the Honda 250 superdream. They are fun and recreation use only, not for serious heavy/hard use.
have a look at 2007 Road Legal Quad Bikes - Quadzilla UK
The RAM's have been around a while, seem good and have a decent spares/parts back up by all accounts.
Anything under 250cc are a waste of time, 650 are mental and like being strapped to a rocket (wylie-e-coyote style) and fired off. Tried these in Dubai a few of times and they where real mental performance. In between lies the sensible stuff with decent power and torque. most 250s will touch 70-75 and cruise at 60-65 but feel more like 100mph!
The honda 450 sounds like it will be a hoot and quite a serious machine. rememb er it will sem faf at first until you get used to it. With 5k to spend i would look at new/sh from the the big manufacturers.
Hope this helps

The race rage is in excess of 14k from memory but with around 100bhp on tap is very rapid something like 3.2 0-60 if you can get the traction and limited to 80mph.
The corp is something like 7k, they are quite new so not many s/h about. Rage has poor headroom and a b*tch to get in/out of when you are a bit knackered but still easier that a Honda pilot.
Company i worked for had corp rage models, good fun an all that but a bit boring after a while, quad is more fun - for me anyway.
Best thing to do is to get a few test drive/rides but then again it is only a snapshot, the thing with the quad is that it feel more involving, shifting your weight around for cornering, etc. more like a bike. with a rage or pilot you are strapped in in a 5 point and unable to move around much, just point and squirt!
Still a lot of fun mind

Thanks guys keep the ideas coming they are very much appreciated. some good ideas paul will have a look for past post on this topic…
yep the Honda 450 does look dam good just worried that it will be too fast 4 my level of experience defiantly invest in some safety gear so I think I need to set up a test ride and see how hardcore it really is from the pr stuff they say its race ready which could come as a shock after a 350 farmers atv…
thanks again keep the ideas coming

Is it though, imaginre pulling up at your local shops or stuck in traffic, likely lads up until around 10 will point and give the thumbs up after that age it is likley to be a different hand gesture implying you do a lot of self abuse!
It does look like fun but not really that cool imho
