Angry BT Customer Service Telephone Numbers - IN THE UK

Does anyone have a direct dial number so that I can speak to a person with some authority in the UK?

My phone and Internet have been off for a week now and the repair date given by BT is 28/10/07!!!!!

Needless to say, this is not acceptable.

I am sick of going through the automated customer service numbers, to be put on hold for 15 mins to speak to some poor chap in India. He is always very courteous, his diction perfect but unfortunately he has no power to change anything!

I draw upon the collective power of S'net to help me.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes it is frustrating, i usually ask to be oput thought to a supervisor or English customer services if i do not get what i want. Often threatening to cancel will acheive this.

Thanks. I'll try some of those.

Don't suppose anyone has any names I can ask for at the BT switchboard?

I have a spleen that needs venting.

As it's the infrastructure that is at fault, BT are the only option. Don't worry though, if they do continue to mess me about, Sky's Speak, Surf and TV offer may well be purchased!

We were 3 weeks and 5 hours of being on hold to get a new line (which was already there). Took 2 minutes to set up at the exchange.

Yes, BT customer service is crap, but that's not just the problem.

It appears that Openreach, who do the work, are now independent and longer part of BT - not BT's choice, but dictated to by Ofcom (previously Oftel). As a result, further delays because openreach are supposed to be avaialable to work for all the TSP's.

So BT no longer have a dedicated repair service, and the lines of communication between the two are not all that they should be

Personally, I blame Labour

Well, it's now apparently being repaired today after speaking to a "supervisor".

OpenReach is part of BT (it even says "a BT Group Business" on their home page), they are just not meant to favour BT Retail (or another part of BT) when providing local loop or backhaul access.

Aha...

Interstingly that's not what the openreach engineers say (or believe)

And don't start them on the whole BT pension thing...

Openreach may well be an owned (wholly or partly) subsidiary, but to all intents and purposes they may as well be quite separate entities. I work for a wholly owned subsidiary of a larger group, but we operate with complete autonomy.

I think the poblem is, Chris, that the engineers used to work for BT plc. Now the don't. They work for a subsidiary and don't consider themselves BT employees any more.
