Merge In Turn
At last
Check out rule 134
133-143: Multi-lane carriageways : Directgov - Travel and transport
and rule 288
288-307: Road works, level crossings and tramways : Directgov - Travel and transport
Whether it will make any difference to the "must get into the inside lane as soon as possible" brigade is of course a different matter

The reason some Q's move at different speeds is because usually people don't merge in turn (excluding outside influences like accidents) and you get a huge queue, of people insisting that they must be on the inside lane 4 miles back and a much smaller q on the other lane.

A14 east bound shut the other day near Newmarket. All traffic was being sent off @ the A142. For 5 miles before it was solid traffic.
About 2 miles before the funnelling exit was a lorry in the outside lane of 3 and the road in front of him was clear to where it came down to being closed.
Not saying his not being there would have eased the traffic but what a prat.
