HIPs-anyone training to be an assessor?
Is anyone on here training or have already trained via ABBE to become an assessor and/or surveyor for the HIPs?
If so, is it any good and how much does it cost?
Cheers.

training from £2500 plus VAT to £3500 plus VAT. Depending on area work can be very hard to find some people getting 1 job every 2-3 days in some areas. the £100 figure per inspection is hopefull most people you find you work will insist on £50-£60. The larger associations and companies have this sown up only them and the trainers are getting rich as they work as agents to find independant inspectors work. Most of the larger conveyancers and estate agents have in house people to do the work or are trainig them as we speak. The rosey picture or 3 inspections a day at 100 pounds each is a myth. One lady I spoke to said she had 700 inspectors on her books and 300 jobs a day came in at £60 per job minus 10% comission. THe whole thing is bad news.

I've been doing a bit of digging around and found some people have paid £8000 - £10,000 for the courses
It seems to be a bit of a great big con.
They make it sound like they are doing YOU a favour by getting you big paying jobs whereas in reality it's YOU doing them a favour by lining their pockets.
I'm staying well away now.

the whole thing is a con the estate agents have their own people the soliciters have their own and lots of valuers are training to do it as well. So ultimately as an only skill its useless without other any links to other parts of the industry to work with. I know a number of people involved in training people for this and in they told me it was a **** up as without the HCR the DEA has no value as a skill on its own.

if you;re interested in surveying as a profession, why not consider a project management course? good project managers are hard to find - and are always in demand, whether self-employed or working for a practice. that's my 2p's worth - i wouldn't bother looking into anything like this personally, as it's likely to be 5 min wonder ie loads of people signing up, then requirements changing or people not making the sort of money they had expected and moving on to the next big thing.....goldrush?
