Never heard of them myself. You're not being offered a pair out of the back of a white van as surplus stock by any chance? If you are, please tell me you're not even thinking about it!

My advice on buying any hi-fi, but especially speakers, is to find a good hi-fi shop with a demo room and have a good long listen with your own choice of music. There's no other way to choose.

If you want recommendations, then (IMHO, and to my ears), British is best. I have speakers from TDL, Monitor Audio, B&W and REL, and they're all great. I was also very nearly sold on a pair of Dynaudios, but changed my mind on a second visit after about an hour of listening. Don't be rushed!

Yes, Acoustic Research is a reputable speaker manufacturer whose products you'll find in dealers across the country. Acoustic Reference is a name that sounds quite like the names of other speaker companies.

Andy.

[Edited to not sound quite so opinionated against a company that makes a product I've never actually heard ]
